Getting some pretty good bleeding from the left rear corner on the rear jug rocker box cover. Any advice? Is there an upgraded part? Should I just retorque and hope or should I get a whole new gasket? TIA | ||

Johnny, Replace the RB gasket with the new metal version. The stock paper version does exactly what you are seeing. The front will follow soon in the front left corner. The new gaskets are a permanent fix. Retorquing won't help. It needs to come apart and be replaced. Follow the torque spec's in the service manual and use Lockite Blue. The KV has tons of info on replacing these. It's not hard, just need to follow the sequence. Do both of them now, save your self another leak. Brad | ||

Saw a small leak in mine this spring. Thought I could hold off until winter, but it was pretty bad a thousand miles later. It was fixed in an afternoon. Unfortunately you'll need to buy a number of gaskets that you'll unseat on the way to the culprit. You will also need to grind down an allen wrench to access one of the bolts. | ||

Not on my bike they weren't [ '01 -x1 ) I don't think that it happen-ed until '03 if it happen-ed then the XB guys don't seem to complain about this problem.. | ||

It was late 2001 if memory serves. If youare cheap, you can get by reusing the rubber gaskets. Just don't streach them when you are cleaning them. I've used the 3 or 4 times with no problems. Of course, YMMV. Brad | ||

Is there a recommended source for the gaskets? Someone recommended James or Cometic, but I'll be darned if I can figure out which ones to order. TIA | ||

The new style HD ones work fine. They are metal one piece units. Staway away from the old paper style, you just replace them again... Brad | ||

There is a Buell kit that has all the gaskets needed to go the metal one, full details are in the KV. And I mean *full* details. Good one day job for a competent home mech with some tools. Cleanliness and adherence to torque specs guarantees happiness with the results. Excellent info in the service manual for doing the work. Jack |
