After lurking on this site for a couple of years, I was finally able to get everything in order and purchased a 2001 X-1 earlier this week!!!!!!

Thanks to all that have answered questions in the past - demfromphilly and others.

Now I'm investigating insurance options so I can ride this weekend. Is the insurance through HOG a good option? I can always go through my current car/truck/home insurance.

Thanks,
Boiler

Motorcycle insurance is separate from your car policy...

Check out Dairyland insurance...it's the cheapest I've found...

Thanks for the lead, Cruisin. That is the reason we have a forum.

Raceautobody, yes it is a nuc blue frame with white body. I like the looks of your painted breadbox. Was it difficult to get paint to adhere to the plastic?

Not difficult at all. Just have to use the right products/steps. If you have yours painted look closely at the texture on the peices. You will notice a brake line in each piece where the texture changes. It makes a natural brake for the paint. Looks factory if you leave the lower portion natural plastic.

Congrats Boiler, and thanks for the kudo's, I think you will like the Buell choice. Does your bike have any mods? How many miles? In PA the best insurance was Merkel sold through a website called BikeLinE. I waived stacking and health insurance and got full coverage for $500 on all three of my bikes. Good luck with the ride, they are easy to work on too, an all around fun hobby, good for the environment with the mileage of a hybrid, etc. Congrats and enjoy...Den

Denfromphilly, We went out Friday night (Honda Shadow and Road King) and had a nice ride. I'm still getting acquainted with the bike (and will be for some time). The mods are a Pegasus seat and chain drive (both by the original owner). It had 2050 miles when purchased. In my investigations, Dairyland was very competitive but I ended up going with my home & car agent and for the bike the deal went to Progressive. I may switch to Dairyland next year since they allow the insured to drop collision during the storage months.

PS - I like the good for the environment excuse too. Honey I'm not doing this for me, its for our future.....

Congrats on the purchase! I have an '00 X-1, really love it. On the insurance, check out Progressive. I've had my bike insurance with them for ages, they have excellent rates. 1-800-274-4499. They have a good multi-bike discount and special rate for us older guys that have garages. I guess they figure we're hobbyists that don't ride much.... quit looking at me that way!
