I was wondering if the 2001 X1 and S3T share the same engine? If so then I would guess that they use the same ECM. Is this reasonable?

Sounds like a reasonable assumption.
Same part number?

the ECM should be the same. The only difference that I know of, is involving the powre Commander, AND the only difference is the cables are longer for the S3, because, of the placement.

The only thing that would levae me suspect, is the difference in cams, IF there is any..which of course, would mean there is a difference in the mapping...but, knowing how they do mass rpoduction, again, I would suspect they are the same.

Hope that helps,......

I thought the S3 and X1 had the same cams. They have identical power and torque outputs.

They are the same ECM. Remember that you'll have to do a TPS reset.

The X1 has been scientifically proven to be much much better than the S3. In fact, it has also been proven that people who ride X1's are more cool than the folks who ride S3's...sniff.

What more is there to say.

The race ECM with andrews cams, wilyco muffler and forcewinder have made this the most fun bike I have ever ridden.

Wasnt too sure. I have never even seen a S3 in person....SO...

And as far as X1 riders are better, cooler, more fun...etc

Well, I ride an X1, so, I guess that makes that statement true....though I think X1 riders crash more...at least I do....
