...'99's have T-Storm motors, just a stock Sportster cam set...When you think M2, think TORQUE, tree stump pullin' low down grunt torque machines. That's why they are such great city/commuter bikes. Rex has the recipe for fun. Improve the air flow in and out.

Find a nice Buell 'race' kit with the CF cover, K&N filter, the 'race' headers and muffler, the Mikuni carb and if you really must, the S1W cam set and you'll be a real happy camper!

That 6th gear and the S1 cams should be more than enough top end to satisfy most 'reasonable' riders...

If you want your bike to be a little quicker and you are not worried about top end loss try a 26 tooth front sprocket. they will run around $165 but improve the smoothness of the bike around town when riding in 25 mph zones. I have run one on my M2 for the last 2 years and don't miss the top end at all. I can still get the bike up to 100+. The speedo will also read a slight bit off.

Yo from Philly, I got a 26 tooth too and like it. It makes my bike a little more drivable in traffic and adds 8% more torque for smoother wheelies. I never miss the top end at all. You can get a fix for the speedo error from Baker the maker of the pulley. Den

I've been doing 7am rides on Sundays for the last 6 weeks. Can there be a more enjoyable machine than an M2? Why did they stop making them?

"Why did they stop making them?"

Because you got yours and that all that matters.

Wow. That was touching......
Though I thought they stopped making them after mine..

Either way, they should bring them back. Or have accessible/cheaper parts for them.

Anyone know where I could locate a cheap (price wise) jet kit for my 2001. Already have the air cleaner and just bought some pipes/muffler. Are they all over $60? What type do you recommend.

parts are pretty cheap, John, and accessible too -- post on the sales part of the board, I imagine a number of folks have some jets laying around they'd be willing to part with -- you will, however, have to be a little more detailed as to your needs, as a "jet kit" has a buncha stuff in it

John,
No need for a "kit" really, just buy a few jets.

There used to be at the top of the carb section of the knowledge vault a list of standard most often used upgrades and settings for 'tuber carb'd bikes. I think it was recommending to use a 45 low jet and either a 180 to 200 upper jet and maybe adjusting the mixture screw to something like 2.5 turns out after drilling and pulling off the cap over it.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, so assume I'm wrong and wait for correction/verification.

A couple of jets should leave you with enough out of a $20 bill to get dinner or buy some oil.

This assumes you have the stock carb and not a Mikuni. If you have a Mikuni then use different numbered jets, whatever those numbers may be.

I obviously don't have enough miles in on the bike this year, you beat me by 4 minutes that time and that was without adding in my edit time penalty. ; )

Hmmm. Oil.....Good idea. Don't tell the wife I chose oil over dinner though....

Thanks. I'll look into it.

If you're working from that $60 number posted prior then you still have enough for dinner with the Mrs.

I weigh about 290 now [I eat a lot]
The smaller front sprocket might be what I need.
Why DID they stop making M2's? [I already know about the money angle] but why doesn't everybody want one?]

I'd like to try one of those "sport bike style"
V-Rods just to see what the deal is...

Silas,

The Street Rod is a fairly heavy(600+lbs) cruiser with improved ground clearance, mid-mount controls and a nice FI motor... it would take a very competent rider to keep pace with any Buell(except a Blast!) through the corners.

The suspension is not adjustable in any meaningful way. The clutch is hydraulic. There is only one HD exhaust kit and only a few specific aftermarket muffler replacements. I've been told it will wake-up a bit with a PCIII and improved intake & exhaust flow...

I consider myself a very average rider. I have been riding 3 years and done about 17,000 miles.

Earlier this spring I did my first track day with my mostly stock M2 (exhaust, intake, front pulley) and was passed once a session by a 50+ year old guy on a stock HD Street Rod. Now when I asked him how he liked the bike he said he enjoyed riding it and had 21,000 miles on it. He also stated he only had the bike for 15 weeks. Needless to say he rides ALOT! He was in the top 5 fastest riders of our group easily and had one or two 600's chasing him all day long.

Point of the story, the V-Rod is a fast bike in the right hands. Don't discount it for being a heavy bike.

Last week I test rode a CVO V-Rod and it was really fast. The long wheelbase and fat back tire make that particular model turn like a pig, but the motor had gobs of power.

I took a Street Rod out during the March Badness demo ride. I was pretty impressed with the handling for such a heavy bike (I got a chance to wring it out pretty good in the corners), but the top end on that engine was a revelation. It felt much faster than the V-Rod, much more than the spec sheet would lead you to believe.

Yesterday morning's ride was perfect...
this morning's ride was chilly.
I found myself crouching down close to the tank [290 lb RickyRacer]out on the interstate.
Anyway, I kinda liked the bent over sitting position.
I have touring bars on the M2 now, maybe I'll put the stock bars back on to get a little lower.
Never rode a bike w/ clip-ons.
Anyone remember the article [Cycle World] from the late 70's on the Sputhe "Aluminum Steamroller".
I gave my copy to Dan Trenholm up in Massachusetts.
The Sportster fever thing is all coming back to me. Read that article, started looking at those 70's factory cafe' sportys by Willie G...then got rid of my flatheads and went to Sportsters.

This Buell culture must have some connection to that Sputhe one off, I think it was built by Sputhe for a guy named Vance Breeze...? It looked like an XR on steroids, but had the XLCR trim.

Is still have that issue of CycleWorld featuring the Sputhe racer. Those heads show up on E-bay every now and then.

That bike was pretty much the last hurrah for Harley based racers on asphalt. They'd never be that competitive one-on-one with Japanese bikes again.

Guys:
I have been assembling an eBay Frankenstein Buell [a tubey] and I have a 99 X1 wiring harness. A pair of brown and black wires are marked RFSL and have two female bullet connectors. I have located all other connector hookups but these. Does anyone know what they hook up to? KK
