what it the fattest tire i can run on the rear PM with the belt? PM with chain and sprocket?

jersey, will depend on a couple issues,, are you going to run the fender "hugger" on the rear tire, stock with a belt and rear hugger is 170-60-17,, you can also run a 180-55-17 no problem. i think you may even be able to run a 190 with a belt, will probably have to loose the hugger and may have to lightly "sand" the edge of the tire to get it to fit. personally i have run the 180 with no problems on the rear of my s2. some prefer the handling of the 170. i have no experience with the 190 so i cant say how this will effect handling. with you 5.5" wide pm rim you probably shouldnt go any larger than a 190. have seen chain set ups that claim to run 210, but you would probably need a wider rim. you may be able to mount a 200 on your stock pm with a chain but no promises,, hope this helps,, aaomy

i know...i'm hoping to find a happy medium. a fatty tuked under a S2 would look sweet.

The 190 will fit, I put one on my S2 with Marchensini wheel, it would fit better PM wheel.

Most OEM's are using 6" rims for 190-200 tires. That's what most tire companies recommend, too. On a 5.5 you'll have big ugly chicken strips that'll be very difficult to remove. It makes little sense to use a bigger tire if its profile looks all ballooned out and distorted.

That's what happened to me when I put a 180 on a 5". I could never get anyhere close to the edge because the sides were essentially vertical.

Be wary of straying from the optimum rim width for your tire size.

I had a coworlker put a 150 rear on a bike that uses a 130. His tire profile near the edge had a big sharp bulge. I told him to go one size up at the most. Riding behind him I could see that he had very little tire on the ground at high lean angles. He ended up losing the rear and lowsiding into a van earlier this week. He was ok, despite some heavy road rash, and the bike is pretty wrecked. Use the sizes you're s'posed to!
