My ride and I went sliding down the highway recently. It didn't look all that bad, but the quote to get it back is $5300. $2900 of it is new body parts. I may buy it back, buy the parts and sell the distressed items. Any ideas what these are worth? With the exception of the bag, most wouldn't take much to get in shape (which is option 2). I'll post picks once I figure out why they won't upload.

The engines seem to sell for between $1500-$2500 on ebay complete, so use that as your base level. Wheels and tires and brake rotors and calipers add in another $300-$900 depending on condition and presentation. The rest all depends on what's wreck, scuffed, or damaged beyond sellability.

The tank, front fender, and fairing are all scuffed in a small area. The tailpiece doesn't even warrant being called scuffed in my mind, but is discolored where the bag apparently hit it.
If I had some great custom paint job in mind it would be a great opportunity. Unfortunately I have a hard time getting past basic black!

You didn't even hit the exhaust? damn that's nothing. a couple hundred on eBay and away you go.

The brake lever is gone?

If you'd left the stock airbox on...

That isn't bad! Take the total from the insurance, buy it back, do the repairs and good to go.The most expensive part is gonna be the aircleaner. A decent paint guy can repair and repaint those scuffs. I would fix the brake and aircleaner and ride it for now and do the repaint over the winter.

Natex.... did you drop a 0? Didn't think so...
The wife's a little uneasy, but I'm pretty sure I'm buying it back. The insurance co will give me $4900 or $2700 and the bike.
I fractured a wrist in the deal so there's an outside chance I can get is painted before my clutch hand is good. It's embarrassing enough to walk around with a cast advertising my stupiditity. Not sure I want the bike in the parking lot as is.
The exhaust is scraped but I wanted to sand it down, anyway. The swingarm was listed as having a scratch but I wanted to polish it anyway.
There's still close to a $1000 of handlebar/grips/brakes (the picture doesn't show the brake lever severely bent) but even if I don't come out even it beats starting over looking for another bike.
I thought I might be able to sell the scraped parts and buy new. Looks like I'd take too much of a hit. Time to look for a decent paint guy....
Is less than $1000 to repair and paint too optimistic?

Easy....did you add an extra zero to the "handlebar/grips/brakes"?

The S3T handlebar is the same as the Blast bars. Grips aren't expensive and the brake levers are cheap.

I'd think the rest of the repairs (except the saddlebag) could be done for under $1000. It really depends on how much work you do yourself.

Even if you decide not to repair, you should be able to get more than $2200 for the parts and motor.

Guess I did add a 0. I was at work and couldn't think of what all added to the $2400 difference between body parts only and the total bill. I was guessing the lever assembly, but like you said -- it's cheap!
Time to find my calculator and do some cipherin' ....

I think you could do the repairs for way less than a grand. do some ebay or badweb shopping for parts. Do some of the prep on the body work yourself to save some cash. A little 200 and 400 grit sandpaper will do wonder on those scuffed plastics. Sit down with your broke wrist a beer and some sand paper, you will be surprised. Most of paint and body is prep. stip the rough spots with 200 grit, smooth with 400 and then all that needs to be done is maybe some lite filler and primer, then paint. You can get some vinyl decals made from the original from a good auto graphic shop for less than 25.00 and they don't stick out like the stock ones do. Don't junk it, fix it.

NO! I was busting your testicles.
I meant to say:
"Get the bike back and fix it. That damage looks like no problem!"

Sorry for the confusion.

But I WILL buy it from you for $300 : )

Thanks guys .... It's coming home.

Natex....knew where you were coming from.... I probably should have grabbed a emoticon.

There was an S2T frame and body on Ebay yesterday that really had me thinking, I think I'll stick with what I've got.

Tom: Thanks for the bodywork advice. I'm always happy to turn wrenches but that artistic stuff is out of my league. Beer and sandpaper I can handle, though!
