Hallo everybody.
I come from Denmark and I am the proud owner of an S1 Lightning 1998.
This winter I am gonna do a major work-over on the bike, i have a few questions.

What color does the frame have on the "carbon black bike" ?
Where in the world can get the carbon black paint ?
( the paint shops in Denmark canīt use the color code for anything).
Does my rear hugger fit if I upgrade my swing arm to the 99+ model ?.
Is it a good idea to change to chain drive ?

Hope to get some help.
Jan Udholm/Denmark.

Hello Jan;
On the swingarm question, NO, your rear hugger will not work. Use the 99 M2 rear hugger.

Hey Ya'll, How's that Northern Weather treating you these days? I saw Glitch's picture of Grand Father Mountain and it gave me the fever -- the only known cure is to go ride the Blue Ridge Parkway. So, this AM I took off and rode the BRP and stopped by Glitch's pic opportunity. Weather was great, minimal traffic, home safely.

For some reason, and I don't know why at this time, the back tire kept walking out on me. The tire has just over 1000 miles on it and is showing minimal wear. I wasn't, never do really, riding real hard or flogging it. Just some 3rd and 4th cruising. Coming back down 181 it wanted to dirt track on me -- if you have any ideas please lay 'em on me.

Here you go NC is beautiful this time of year! Later.

Check your rear isolators, swingarm mount bolts, axle nut, tire pressure, wheel bearings, basically anything in the hind end that could be a little loose either from accidently not getting tightened or becoming prematurely worn out. Jack the bike up on a centerstand and start pushing and pulling parts to see what moves and what doesn't.

Hey Mikej, Thanks for the information. Prior to receiving your message I had the back-end up in the air and I'm getting no lateral movement with 'lots' of pressure from side to side. Tire pressure is right on, wheel bearings are good, I'm a bit confused. These things, by their very nature, are pretty simple, but I can find nothing wrong.

Might just have BuckinFubba get me some new rubber and see what happens? I do appreciate your advice and comments. Thank you!

Greg,
Was the tire fully scrubbed in prior to this? Or was this the first trip with extra lean angles? A 1000 mile tire shouldn't need replacing, is it a new to you brand of tire, could just have a different feel than what you're used to. I had a set of ChenChins on an older Yamaha once that felt like I was always riding on greased pavement, never bought a set of their tires since.

Also, at this time of year there are lots of pine needles and leaves getting ground into dust and settling onto the roads, they may look clear but there may be a bit of slidable dust on them. I don't see this too much here but used to see/feel it a lot out west, road looks good until you stop and test it with your feet.

I'm gonna have to dig my bikes out of the garage before the winter sets in around here. Everything is moved into the new location, just need to unbury everything now.

Let Bubba take it for a test ride and get a second opinion on it before you go spending money. Just trying to help some.

Mike.

I'm running stock HD/Dunlops and it has been scrubbed in the past. I don't believe it was 'stuff' on the roads either. Maybe I can get Brian up on the BRP with me and then check it out ;)

Your advice is always welcome here! Thanks.

Greg: Great pics. There's nothing like riding up there. I was born and raised in that area, and nothing makes me appreciate those mountains more, than living here in Atlanta. At least I'm not that far away that I can't be there at a spur of the moment. Got any more pictures?

Hey Glitch, I've got a few more on my other box I think and I'll look for them later. I didn't want to overload the board with pics. I'm seriously thinking about going up again today -- it's just a short little ride to Blowing Rock and then jump on the BRP.

I've spent over half my life in other countries and I've seen some sites, but the BRP, the whole area, is tops! I dream about the area when I'm gone and just love it. We used to have a place up on Ginger Cake road, just off of 181, about 4 miles from a BRP entrance.

Hell, damn, I'm supposed to be at a job interview in Charlotte in an hour, hell, damn, I'm going back to the BRP. If anyone needs a half-assed engineer, great education, lot's of experience, shaky work ethic when riding season is in, all around nice guy, please let me know (must have good parking area for my bikes too!)

Glitch strikes again! I wouldn't have went yesterday if you hadn't posted that pic and now I'm going back. Later.

Glitch you failed! I was going to go back up today after a doctor's appointment, but BuckinFubba called me to tell me I've got some parts in his shop. Just did a phone interview with some company out of Atlanta and I missed the Charlotte appointment.

What the hell I'll find a job next week -- if it's raining ;) I really need to go back to work but my current employer is only offering me real money jobs back in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan. I think I'm going to stay right here in Pumpkin Center for a bit.

I'm not familiar with YAWATEG -- enlighten me? I bet if I heard it spoken it would make more sense?

Yawateg; There was a cabin up in Ginger Cake that was called that. The couple that owned it called it that because it was their getawaY.

Yawateg, still not ringing any bells. I'm trying to call my mother right now for some information.

Bring yourself back up to God's country and we will ride 181 and the BRP. Just give me a quasi-date and we're in.

Hey Brian/Loki, I work for Northrop Grumman -- don't know how long they're going to keep paying me but that's who's footing the bill for the moment. There's so many contracting outfits and folks in Iraq/Afghanistan it's amazing. If your buddy really wants a gig over there it can be had.

Excellent job w/the R's paintjob. Very similar to a color scheme I'm interested in doing myself.

Peggy, you didn't happen to do the work yourself, perchance?

Aw! Man! Yer killin' me!
We'll have to meet up soon.
Yawateg is getawaY backwards, some people I met up there called their cabin that. You may not know it because that was many (20+) years ago...
Now that I think of it, it was on the plus side.
Yes we'll have to go riding soon...sooner than later, as winter is coming.
Things at work are hell right now as we just went through a reorganization, and the dust hasn't settled yet.
Hopefully, maybe, next weekend (the 15th or 16th).
Let you know soon.

Hey Glitch, I hope I'm still here then and if we can work it out it's on. I'm still waiting on my next gig and don't have a freaking clue where it will be yet. Trying to stay out of the middle-east or anywhere close.

Let me know something. Later.
