Does anyone else notice that almost all the Hollywood actors handling firearms in an action scene have their trigger fingers in a safe position? I know, most people wouldn't notice, and that ultimately it is a good thing that they were taught safe finger positioning, but it bugs me how unrealistic it is. I know......it's Hollywood, and you can't expect a truthful portrayal. Maybe it's just a new rule or procedure because of the Alec Baldwin incident? Sorry, I just had to rant. Rant over.

(I also find it funny how many of them flinch when they shoot)

The good actors who take training to look like they are real Action Heroes, will demonstrate trained gun safety.

Keanu Reeves is well known to have trained a Lot for the John Wick series, and several others take pride in training to be more realistic.

The ego-jerks, like Alec Baldwin, not so much. And it shows.

Linda Hamilton, ( Terminator series ) trained hard for Terminator 2 with Uziel Gal. Not only losing weight and gaining muscle, she learned to handle and strip/assemble weapons like a pro, as did Robert Patrick.

Otoh, good gun handling skills in movies is very irregular. The "gansta" sideways grip was from a movie where the director thought it looked cool. Don't recall which movie but police have joked it saved a lot of cops and got a lot of bystanders killed. ( points if you recall which movie! )

And the infinite magazine & six shooter thing is a long time Hollywood complaint from gun fans. It's still a thing. : ) And partly because direction & editing for action flow omits reloading as well as ignorance/not caring. More recently, the quest for "realism" ( in movies with hundreds of trained assassins etc. ) and the dramatic use of reloading and running out of ammo, has somewhat improved action scenes.

The "reloading scene" isn't new, a smart director will use it for witty dialog & comedy breaks in action movies, but it does seem like at least some directors really try to improve the suspension of disbelief factor with more realistic gun control.

But... ; )

Compare Equilibrium, with gun kata & dystopian fantasy, with Kick Ass, and the equally over the top stunt work, but to very different effect. I freely admit I like the characters in Kick Ass a lot better than Equilibrium, but it's the comedy aspects in a very violent film that make it a favorite, as well as the characters. Casting is excellent in both!

And useless trivia. The butterfly knives Mindy gets for her birthday were discontinued by the manufacturer before the movie was released. I know this because I tried to buy one. ( I'm not a butterfly knife fan, but I did learn how to use one as a teen, & having "Mindy's knife from Kick Ass" seemed cool )

Btw, one ER trip, and several First Aid experiences with friends who hurt themselves with balisongs, inspired me to give blunt training knives to several. I highly recommend one to learn how to manipulate them.

Reminds me of going to the range and forgetting everyone's name I was introduced to but remembering what brand rifle they had.

As of this week, well over a hundred gun shops have closed in New York state as the State Police background check system for purchase of ammo grinds on. All according to plan.

Some people are getting approval after a week or more delay. Most customers are giving up and ammo & guns set aside can't honorably be sold to others, so between loss of income and unConstitutional regulations, it's going out of business or leaving for many small businesses.

Recall the Rand study that found that just 123 of 27,900 gun control studies meet rigorous scientific standards.

New York's Governess wants any 3 or more people training in home defense in an organized manner at a range to be an illegal militia felony. And the State Police will monitor/infiltrate.

Sometimes you get to laugh at the Violaters of their Oath to defend the Constitution.

To be fair, it could be the fault of his staff, since he doesn't care enough to do the work himself. And now I wonder if both pictures are Photoshop versions of a trip to Bass Pro Shops.

Oh, btw, voting to take away rights from people while pretending to be One Of Them, just points out the Elitist Snob attitude of someone who has Privilege over you Peasants.

Re: drones and shotguns.

There's no sure safe local place to try buckshot on drones. It just carries too far so local ranges don't allow it, and you can't be certain there's no bystanders or hikers on public lands. It's different in less crowded plains and desert States.

So we have to settle for shooting at pattern targets to estimate the odds on hitting a flying drone.

I'd like to try shooting at a drone towed target streamer like a miniature WW2 target sleeve used for gunnery training for fighter pilots. But you need to limit flight paths to keep it safe and misses that hit the drone make it potentially much more expensive than skeet.

Otoh, they make pretty cheap drones and it may be the next big thing in Sporting clays events...

Not many details and state law would rule here, but shooting a fleeing cop killer might be risky legally for a civilian.

In New York that's "brandishing" and you will be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law and then some. In sane States that's threatening and you deserve what you get.

I realize you're pretending to be on the far left of the bell curve, but being a dumb a$$ in a sporting goods store can be stated in various metaphors you'd not get at your assumed ignorance.

It's almost as bad as my old convenience store moonlighting job. The corner store gets robbed more often, but a gun store robber is either insane or aggressively stupid.

The real problem gun shops have is idiots. Stupid people cause unintended discharges. Even smart people make tragic mistakes.

My favorite store before they got shut down by the Imperium had big signs on both sides of the door, politely asking you to empty and clear all firearms outside before entering, and failure to do so was considered fatally stupid.

Any intelligent gun owner knows you unholster your firearm for two reasons.

1. to put it in storage when not in use (my EDC lives in the safe at home; the shotgun stays close by)

2. to use it.

When you're in public, people will assume you aren't putting it in storage...so you must be about to use it. That...worries...other intelligent gun owners, and they become defensive rather quickly.

But hey, if you wanna try it...look on the bright side. You may get the answer to your question, AND win a Darwin award!

Brandishing a firearm can sometimes be the difference between having to use it or not.

True!

In fact, to further agree, most murders stopped by Armed Citizens don't involve shooting, just the threat of resistance/repercussion makes the Bad Guys run.

But a gun isn't a magic wand, if you pull one out you must be willing to use it, and have made the judgement that you have reasonable fear of deadly force being used against you or others. You don't pull out a gun for insults or littering.

And in the Imperium, (NY) you can be arrested for "brandishing" if your jacket slides up as you sit in a public place and offers a glimpse to a Karen who will hysterically call the police. Irrational, unfair, too common.

As my Sifu taught me long ago, never threaten. Just defend.

If they run away on seeing your capacity to defend yourself, great! Win!

He was serious about the morality of using force. Defensive Only. That doesn't mean you don't hit first, that's playground rules. It doesn't mean you can't use deadly force. That's a Hollywood idiocy, any punch, any push, has the real potential to kill. A simple shove, the shoved loses balance and hits head on solid object, including the ground, can kill.

And he was a pragmatic. You fight to stop an attack, to save lives. Including your own. There's a Reason a real responsible person doesn't get into fights for fun outside of training and competition. Bar fights are stupid and immoral and no legitimate martial artist starts one.

I've had decades of fun controlled violence in competition with willing and skilled opponents. Full contact and protective gear. That same violence against unskilled and not equipped people is more than potentially crippling & fatal. It may sound like bragging to an outsider, but any "Brown belt" level amateur martial artist is trained to be deadly, and hopefully, taught to be responsible with those skills.

Ditto weapon carrying Citizens. ( even pepper spray can kill, undesired, accidental, unlikely, but sh#$ happens... Remember the Summer of Riots triggered by an overdosed violent thug? )

Untrained immoral thugs murder people with bare hands all the time. Good people defend innocents from Bad people.

I had to laugh when I saw the scene in that Glock switch video where the auto fire incidents increased after the St George riots and defund the police started. With fewer cops and the politicians stabbing the remaining cops in the back, of course the criminals are emboldened!

I'll point out that The Last Pope is guarded by Armed forces with REAL assault rifles, ( and pretty darn good ones, Swiss 7.5 ) anti tank missiles, ( seriously, the Swiss Guard has faced down tanks before, and they are practical, well trained, Elite troops ) and those pole arms are proven slaughter tools. ( and one of my favorite weapon forms )

I'll also point out that Commie Pope Frankie is a product of a KGB program and dedicated to the destruction of Western Civilization By Any Means Necessary, including the various facets of Eco-Fraud & Sexual Deviant Mainstreaming. ( that I think of myself as a fun loving Deviant is irrelevant to the facts ) ( and I'm not the anti J. K. Rowling kind, I think she rocks! )

So of Course the Pope wants to disarm his Enemies, aka, You.

Ask any Mason about the history of the Mother Church and violence.
