The thing to understand is simple.

Semiautomatic fire arms, and every single "feature" that the anti civil rights crowd wants to ban, is well over a century old. For a hundred years or more, these objects have been available to the public and there was no special problems. Suddenly there is a crisis? Lie.

I don't know how old a pistol grip is on a gun. 400 years? 500? Bayonet mounts? 350? Multi shot magazine? Civil War.

Terrifying powerful .223 ammo? It's a varmint round. Designed to shoot rats. Considered deliberately light and low powered to reduce recoil and shooting deer/human sized critters a bit irresponsible and radical. That argument continues to this day. I point out the folk that literally went around the planet hunting the biggest baddest critters that walk with .22 center fire guns as proof of ?????? Really good aim, to be honest.

There is a reason many African countries demand you use a minimum .375 H&H Magnum on large and dangerous game. Dead tourists are bad for business.

Yeah, I think they over extended a bit, the holding company bought a LOT of other makers, and Marlin, for example, had to have a lot of old worn out equipment replaced to get the quality up to modern standards. I don't know the details on the other purchases, but I assume it was a mixed bag.

The real problem was probably Trump. All of a sudden it didn't seem that important to buy a gun, specifically an AR variant, before Obama & Bloomberg & the Communist Party & the Democrat Party & The Soros Hydra of fake grass roots & lobbying firms. ( Now in a public partnership with the Obama Forever Campaign who is using it's contacts and experience laundering money from overseas to rake in money from?????? )

Unfortunately that lull in sales hurt Remington and other companies that had invested big bucks in expanding production.

Whether or not it was a good idea to not worry about confiscation NY style or not is a different argument.

They're not Gone, they're just adjusting. I hope they keep the best parts, Like Marlin.

Marlin makes several very desirable guns, including the stainless Guide model lever actions, which are just the thing to have going after Dangerous Game in the Americas. The British African Tradition is for big Doubles, ( the most reliable, if insanely limited repeater, and the First Reliable one. ) and Mauser magnum bolt actions, ( Mauser & FN/Mauser sold millions of just actions to custom gunmakers over the 20th Century alone ) But American heavy game tradition has been Single shots, from flintlocks through the big Sharps & Remington Rolling Block. Post WW1 Bolt actions, in part because of war surplus sales, ( and war training ) rose in popularity against lever actions, but the lever action is still the traditional Deer rifle, and in heavy calibers like .45-70, .444 marlin, etc, are THE go-to gun for dangerous game. And in the U.S. that means Brown Bears. The Guide series is a compact, but not feather weight, favorite among guides and others who live in Big Bear country. ( and do a fine job on deer )

Here's a customized model for sale. http://www.armslist.com/posts/4564944/greenville-g eorgia-rifles-for-sale--marlin-1895gs--brockman-s- custom-guide-gun--ss-in-45-70-gov--sale-pending-

In the "kill anything that walks the Earth" category, you could do far worse. When Jurassic Park opens, we'll see how it does on T Rex.

Consider the same people who would ban your guns would also ban your motorcycles.

Stretch? Not so much. Imagine an up and coming President wannabe. Abortion and guns are too toxic. Especially if the backlash to this latest faux news cycle works out as I hope. Budget? Best ignore. A guy looking for a cause to ride.... How many dead on murder cycles each year? Young folk ignorant of their own danger. Insurance numbers don't lie. Best we limit motorcycle licences to those over 25. That would reduce fatalities by a large fraction. ( men under 25 are insurance nightmares. That's why it costs so much more until 25. Scientific studies show the risk assessment part of the brain doesn't mature until the mid 20's in men. )

Then the remaining small minority can be addressed.... And there will be far fewer new riders if they have to wait an extra lifetime when they're twelve to ride anything. Shrinking minority, low political participation, perfect target.

CNN with it's daily coverage of every accident. Snarky, self congratulatory editorials on how smart they are not to indulge in the suicidal toxic masculinity of murder cycle riding. Sly hints that bikers are all drug dealers. And not the nice hippie kind at the pot dispensary! Meth heads and illegal gun killers.

You can see the echoes of this so far imaginary nightmare.

Odds are we as a group won't be so targeted, but can't you see David "adults are idiots" Hogg preaching how murderous the biker lobby is?

I return you to your regularly scheduled programming. 24/7 Anti civil rights Pravda.

Not too far-fetched. I remember Carter's head of NHTSA http://www.profbobsfunwithhistoricalstuff.com/2016 /07/joan-claybrook-and-safe-motorycle.html

She was also on a tear about the CBX and how it was a racing bike and too dangerous. I sent several letters to her and my rep and senators about how short-sighted she was. If I find them, I'll scan and post. I got responses, but it was the usual "caring" stuff.

Those people hate freedom.

I just fail to see the point.

No bullets? Killers will simply substitute.
Vans.
Rental trucks.
Knives.
Explosive packages.

How about we do something USEFUL, and try to educate our population about the value of human life? Actually pay attention to the warning signs when a person goes off the reservation? If I'm remembering correctly, EVERY SINGLE ONE of these recent "mass killings" were perpetrated by someone who was "on the radar" of some law enforcement agency or another.

Nope.

Lets blame the "worthless hunk of metal" instead of actually WORKING towards solving the root cause - evil PEOPLE.

End insanity defenses for mass killers.
Start live executions on TV for mass killers.
Bring back firing squads. On live TV.

I'm willing to bet we'd see a decline pretty much immediately, when people realize "hmm...I'm not going to get away with it, I'm going to get dead". They're cowards. They attack gun-free-zones. If they know they'll end up in a gun-rich-zone and all of them are pointed at THEM...they'll think twice. Guaranteed.

Let's ban the insanity plea, and prosecute anyone who tries to use it. How bout THAT? Better yet, let's just get our LEOs to simply shoot on sight once the identity of the shooter is confirmed. No harm, no foul, no three hots and a cot on the taxpayer's dime. You disrespect human life like that, you forfeit your own. Period.

Make the Capitol a gun free zone. No armed police or private security. No armed Secret Service in the building. Hundred thousand dollar fine and five years Federal prison?

Never happen.

That's why I'm with the smart Jews on this one. Never again.

And ANYONE using that phrase Must be questioned on their appropriation of the phrase. Do they support the Jews? Or the Nazis?

From the mouths of babes.

Fuedal Japan banned swords for anybody not in the aristocracy. That's why ninja weapons are mostly farm tools. Nunchucks are rice flails. Etc.

Sparta reserved weapons for the ruling caste.

American gun control laws originally are to prevent the slaves from revolting. After a century of Marxist indoctrination, the same thing, except the slaves are us all and not just blacks.

Zero tolerance for civil rights destruction. Resist, Period. Noncompliance. Refuse to register. Refuse to talk.

New York has $500 reward for informing on your neighbors and relatives. The SAFE Act may be the parent of the biggest revolt since the Civil War. Millions refused to register. Discussion of that fact will get your microphone shut off faster than calling for the First Lady to be raped by pigs. Much faster.

The revolution isn't being televised.

Weren't there reports of ginormous ammo buys for fed agencies that didn't seem to need such firepower? IIRC, there was speculation that it was to tie up the manufacturers' capacity.

Court.
I hope the take an inch proclamation by the new spokes person of the left answers your question about bump stocks.

I'm a tech oriented guy. I can and prefer to talk technical details instead of pointing at Hitler and becoming a cliché.

So..... New York & technical details from the gun grabbers. One of the defining characteristics of imaginary assault weapons
Since the Clinton years is a bayonet mount. If an object has a bayonet mount widget plus xyz, it's a doom machine that eats babies.

Back in the days when you reloaded a gun by standing up and carefully pouring powder then ramming a ball down the barrel, while the enemy shot at you, a common tactic was to wait until the enemy was very close, fire the one shot you had loaded before the battle, then you hit him with your club. ( an empty wood & steel gun) It didn't matter much if you were running or him. You didn't want to drop your gun and pick up a pike. You might lose it. Your Sergeant would be mad at you. Life in war sucks enough without that. Here's the nasty truth about cavalry. Horses are smart. They won't run into a line of men with pointy sticks aimed at the horse's face. A bunch of guys without pointy sticks? That's stomping fun time. One answer was to give guns to some guys and pointy sticks to others. That reduces the fire power of a unit and is not optimal. So to combine a gun with a pointy stick was the secret to not having cavalry kill you in large numbers. Hence, a way to stick a knife on a gun was slowly invented.

Guns with knives got a lot of press in WW1 in trench warfare. Every military trains guys to scream and poke in basic training. It's an aggression drill and moral booster. It even gets used when things go horribly wrong in combat.

But bayonets are for heavy wood and steel guns with fairly straight stocks. Like WW1 battle rifles. The AR looking guns are rotten bayonet holders. The grip is in the wrong place ( I'm trained in spear & polearm.... A M-16 is terrible as a pointy thing weapon ) and the stock is a fragile plastic and aluminum tube mechanism that bends and breaks the gun when you hit someone with it. That makes your Sergeant angry at you. You're also probably dead.

But it's traditional. And it's better than nothing.

So how many people were killed with a bayonet in civilian America, ever? Not counting when troops were used to break up strikes.... Zero.

Yet a mount for a bayonet, standard equipment for every gun used by the U.S. military, for centuries and found on millions of surplus rifles in closets, is a defining feature of terror propaganda for decades by people who are, to put it simply, lying to you.

The Egyptians may have known it too but the Greeks were famous for the iron discipline and formation fighting needed to use the tactic.

It is often the ones who wrote it down that get the credit.

Apropos nothing..... I got yelled at by my Union chapter head Monday. The Union steward reported me for helping a little old lady who had fallen on my route. Why, I was asked didn't I report this?

My response was I quit bothering after a decade since supervision didn't care.

How many other such incidents?

I don't bother to count..... Let me think 3, no, 4 cases of major motor vehicle accidents first on scene, 3 with serious injuries requiring ambulance. That's this decade I forget how many before that. One house on fire cleared of occupants, two dog attacks stopped, three? fallen elderly folk, one needed ambulance.... Yeah, that's all I remember from work.

From work?

It just happens all the time. A hobby, I guess.

End conversation.

.............

I'm just lucky to be where the crap hits the fan sometimes. I admit to deliberately getting some training when I started Hang Gliding, figuring I might have to deal with accidents well off the beaten path. (Boy Scout) Lifesaving classes were easy college credits.

The real heroes are the nozzle nuts and their EMT brothers. Volunteer fire fighters. Pros. I don't run into burning buildings.... OK, once, but I was careful.

I've known real heroes. Went to school with a girl who was a smoke jumper in summer. Big brass ovaries on that one.
