Hello Guys,

I reverse engineered Buell Firebolt top triple tree clamp and thinking about designing custom top tree clamp to accomodate Motogadget Motoscope Mini in it like this one

https://cognitomoto.com/products/triple-clamp-with-monoscope-mini?variant=768818469

But the thing is this clamp from the link does not have Buell Firebolt lock attachment spot and does not have handlebars interface. It requires clip on bars and eliminating the steering head lock.

My idea is to design triple tree top clamp with all those features. So basically it will have close to the original clamp design just with pockets for Motoscope Mini and for Motosign Mini gauges and optimized for CNC machining of course. So it will be plug and play clamp Buell Firebolt owners can switch on with no mechanical modifications.

The only one possible difficulty I see with keeping the original design of the handlebars attachment spots is milling slots for original Buell Firebolt handlebars interface in those deep pockets. It it not impossible but it might make machining work a little more complicated and adds some cost to the unit price.

Originally I was thinking to design this custom clamp and order one unit in China to save some money. But during my custom build going I found that there are a lot of expenses going on and I switched to the idea with just designing small clamps for those Motogadget gauges to attach them to the handlebar tubes and use original Buell Firebolt triple tree top clamp.

So I'm still thinking about possibility of designing custom triple tree top clamp and my offer here is I will completely design whole custom clamp, I will finish technical drawing with all necessary requirements and I can provide CAD 3D model of the custom clamp and technical drawing for someone who has machine shop and he can start making parts and sell them for his own profit with no limitations and no contributions, but he will provide me one unit for my personal project for free (this is only my interest here).

So let me know if you are interested and we can discuss about this work.

Thank!

Great post!

I just purchased an 04 XB12R and want to replace a top triple tree clamp with a more traditional handlebar clamp- like my XB12 Uly.

Will a Uly or Lightning top tree fit the XB12R forks?

Thanks for any insights you may have.

I believe so. But google it first. You might have troubles with different side mounted style lock.

Make sure the top diameter of the forks and spacing between them are the same. I know that 2009 XB have same top triple tree spacing and fork diameters for R and Scg so you can switch them.

Please note that you will likely need to switch clutch cable, throttle cables and front brake line to appropriate longer parts because of higher and wider handlebar will require longer cables.

And again please also note that Uly triple tree will require different side mounted ignition switch-lock. It means you will also need to replace the seat lock, fuel tank lock as full set. It also means you have to check that R style front end allows for such setup. This is something I'm not sure. R has front fairing that might not give you access to side mounted lock.

Alright. It looks like nobody is interested to build custom top triple tree clamp. So I decided to go easier cheaper way and designed small aluminum bracket for Motoscope and for diodes similar to Motosign. I'm planning to order the part in China since it should be cheap enought for me. But if somebody is interested to produce and sell this thing I'm can share the CAD model, drawing and all necessary off-the-shelf hardware for free if you wish to produce one unit for me from 6061 aluminum with bed blasted black anodized finish.

This is CNC aluminum bracket. You need to solder 6 wires chord to the LEDs (LEDs have different colors and have integrated resistors already). Optionally you can solder two diodes to manage one LED for left and right turn signal indication. Then you just fill the diodes cavity with electronic potting compound.

The bracket is attached to Firebolt left handlebar mounting hole.

3D printed the brackets to check the fit. Everything looks good

OK, finally I have the custom CNC mashined black anodized housing for the motogadget
