Oh by the way I figured i'd tell you how it happened real quick. While navigating a left curve(a little too quickly), I ran out of road and started to lean harder. When my steering went soft. I did exactly the wrong thing and started using both brakes which sent me into a two wheel slide. For a milisecond I thought I had control just before it highsided me and slammed me to the ground. Stupid me was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. After I healed up a little I went back to the SCENE and found that the untraveled part of the road I was on had nothing but black chat which looks just like asphalt from a distance. Just the wrong combination of things I guess. Thanks again, Adam | ||

I was hoping to never use this page. However sitting at a stoplight a Ford Aerostat Van hit me from behind. I caught the bike from falling over but I lost my right rear turn signal, license plate holder and scratched the inner fender and belt guard. We called the Harley shop with a cell phone and got an estimate on how much the parts would be and approximately how much labor to install and settled on the spot for $800.00. My back is OK and the burse on my butt is going away. So I think I got lucky on this one. | ||

Heres one, my friend who loved my 99M2, went and bought a 01 M2. His second bike, first real bike. I told him when he bought it, if your gonna go out and your on the bike don't drink. Guess what....on the way home last night he was going too fast in a curve and high sided it, completly trashed the bike. Here's the best part, he was wearing shorts, t-shirt, no gloves and a helmet. He now has road rash from his neck to his ankles, and no bike. Lesson learned, I hope. | ||

Went and seen him today, his whole left arm is one big scab, chest back, legs and right arm aren't any better. Bike is about 50 pounds lighter now, most of the parts are on the side of the freeway off ramp where he dumped it. If anyone is looking for "used" cyclone parts, check where I-94 and I-75 meet in Detroit. | ||

Good News on the Blast rebuilding front (living in Hawaii means "waiting for parts") almost everything is in hopefully next week they can start putting it back together. My Helmet came it today. I have an Arai head but I don't have an Arai bank account. Shoei's hurt so they're out I don't like how Bell helmets feel and Beiffe helmets look "cheap" to me. The only other helmet I wanted I couldn't find one to try on and that was a Simpson. I had a HJC CL12 that I liked and it felt good so I was looking at and ended up buying their AC10. Well this is the nicest helmet short of an Arai RX7 that I have ever had my head in. I can't wait to ride in it...need to put my Bugeyes on it sometime soon. | ||

Lets all pray for a buddy of mine that crashed last night when apparently a deer jumped in front of him. He was immediately life-flighted and is currently in a induced coma so they can get the swelling down in his brain. He has significant damage to the right side of his brain and right eye area. He is an excellent rider that happened to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time. I hope he will be ok. They say that it will be four days before they can even say what the totality of the damage may be. Let's all pray for Matty. Get well buddy!!!!!!1 Justin | ||

NO, he wasn't.  I would like it known that I am proud to put my leathers and helment on each time I ride, so I can have a better chance to ride another day. At last word, he is still in the coma and they had to cut him open to get a clot out of his brain. Other than that, nothing new. Found out today that he is the second local guy this week to be lifeflighted because of a bike wreck. I didn't know the other dude. Justin | ||

Two weeks ago Our local police chief was killed after hitting a deer at low speed on his HD. I just don't understand, the usual, he was a great guy etc, not one word about he would have minor rash if he wore a helment. Only public comment from Mayor was I wouldn't have hired him if I knew he rode a bike. Had a picture of his office in paper, looked like a HD shrine. | ||

Kind of eerie reading those posts about hitting deer. This morning on my way into work I had one come out and clock me. The deer didn't survive and the bike{'97S3} doesn't look so pretty anymore. Me? No broken bones but a whole bunch of SERIOUS swelling. I was lucky. The helmet got a few scratches of the faceshield and my Darien jacket and gloves were totalled. I can not imagine what I'd look like without the gear on. Well,yeah,I could..massive skin loss! The first two cars that went by never even slowed down. I guess I must have looked too scary trying to pick the bike back up... | ||

Roderick, I'm in the Navy I've been here a bit over 2 years, I live in Kaimuki (16th ave) right now it's raining, on the mauka side of the H1, sunny on the makaii side making for a great sunset rainbow. Loki you have a Buell and a feret for pets? Can the Buell do any tricks??? I know better than to ask about the slinky with fur...all they do is tricks (escape artists that they are) | ||

Justin: I'm so sorry to hear about your buddy. I hope Matty recovers.... that's just tragic. Loki: I know where you're coming from on the ferret front -- we have four, and folks at work can't seem to understand why they make such cool pets. Our four are awesome, and I wouldn't trade the crew for anything. Our cat loves them too. I've been posting about my wreck on the Blast board, but thought I should add the link here as well. http://homepage.mac.com/tkryder/PhotoAlbum1.html Apologies to those who have already heard about my mishap. Last Thursday night around sunset, I was riding after work when I hit a really crappy piece of pavement as I was downshifting to make a left-hand turn. I lowsided at 30-35 mph, and the Blast and I skidded along some of the worst pavement in Boise, Idaho. I came to rest a few feet behind the bike, and luckily, a passerby stopped a few minutes later and called 911 on his cell phone. I was taken by ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, where they admit all motorcylce crash victims as "Type 3" trauma patients. That is to say, they assume you're in a real bad way. There were about 8 people in the room waiting to work on me when they brought me in. Since I was OK, that number shrank to 3. Thankfully, my jacket, gloves, helmet and boots did their thing, and my injuries were limited to road rash (with florescent yellow pus!) and a torn right ACL. The ER folks said I was one of the "better" motorcyclists, in that my injuries weren't that bad, and the paramedics and cops were impressed with the padding in my Joe Rocket jacket. I guess they don't see a lot of folks with that kind of gear. I don't know how bad the knee is; I visit the orthopedic surgeon Wednesday. The bike could've been a lot worse, and it is wreck No. 23 for our HD shop this summer. I suspect it will be around 2 months or so until it is repaired. That's fine, since it will be at least that long for my knee to get better. I'm not planning on giving up riding, especially since I know the accident wasn't my fault, and since I was wearing the right gear. My Arai probably saved my life, and while I know there are plenty of good helmets out there, Arai will be the only lid I ever wear. I'm partial to Joe Rocket at the moment as well, but I eventually hope to do enough riding to warrant buying an Aerostich suit. Mind you, I haven't been riding all that long -- I passed my MSF course early in June, and I've already had an accident. But I consider myself a good driver, and a careful rider, and was just really starting to feel really in tune with my bike. I crashed on a piece of road I was relatively familiar with. I'm chalking this one up to experience, and consider it a piece of bad luck. As far as my injuries go, I don't consider myself lucky; the way I see it, my injuries aren't all that bad because I was prepared. A thousand pardons for the ramble... must be the Vicodin again. Aikigecko, Great sunset rainbow, huh ? I am trying verrry hard not to hate you right now. Been so long since I've seen one WORTH stopping and staring. Led a pretty sheltered life as a kid. Was so surprised, during basic training in Lackland AFB, that the rest of the country were paying 50c for a loaf of bread, while we were paying almost a buck (back in '83). Now I've heard it's almost 5 bucks for milk. Keep riding.... Roderick | ||

Jen, Glad to hear you are OK, and that you will keep on riding. The road sounds familiar, I've probably been on it before, I work for Micron, now down in Lehi, UT. The people at Cycle Nuts & Bolts seemed friendly enough towards the Buells. I was back up in Boise a couple of weeks ago and ran over a metal rod that not only puncture the rear tire, but the other end of the rod gouged some of the tread apart, if you know the curly Crazy Straw drinking toy for the kids, that's how this rod looks, I plugged the hole with a kit I carried under the seat, limped to gas station and aired up. The plug held, got me back to my hotel, the next AM, Cycle Nuts & Bolts replaced the tire in a couple of hours. Thanks for info on this road, since I will be back to Boise occasionally, I will keep this in mind. Roderick | ||

Xfudog: It's the road that goes out to the prison. I was heading north (back toward the city) when I hit the "thing" while getting ready to turn left on Holli Lynn, a road with some way cool houses that will eventually take you up to the World Center for Birds of Prey (another fun little road, btw). The crazy straw sounds like a major downer. I'll have to start carrying a patch kid too, I guess. The Cycle Nuts & Bolts guys have been really nice. The service guys are cool, and the parts guys are really helpful too. They don't seem to mind the Buells, and I know a few of them have Buells in addition to their Hogs. In general, the H-D guys in Boise have been very friendly -- I get more of them waving at me than the squidly types. Drop me an e-mail the next time you're gonna be in Boise. Hopefully, I'll be recovered by then and will be able to ride. If not, the hubby has an SV650s and is always looking for folks to ride with. And if you like Japanese food, the hubby and I have found a very good restaurant on Chinden and Eagle. Jen | ||

OK red flag here. Idaho has good Japanese Food???? That would be a find. Yes $5 for a gallon of milk...Gas is cheaper at $2.09. Aren't Hawaii prices great. Must be the trade-off for all the good weather | ||

Jen, Make sure you get a patch kit with some heavy duty epoxy included. When I ran over that rod, my rear ends, mine and the bike's, was all over the road. I got off the seat quick, applied both brakes and bounced off to the shoulder. Not sure if rising off the seat was the right thing to do, if anyone disagree, let me know why, but I think getting the weight off the rear tire prevented further damage and possible blow out, because it ended up with a hiss when I came to a complete stop. Both ends of this rod was in the tire, the curly part was protruding more than an inch from the tire tread. Yes, I do like Japanese food. These are the tastes I've acquired in my travels in Uncle Sam's service : Japanese, Korean, Thai, Italian, Spanish, Mexican, French (tres fat), German, Turkish, Greek, English, Scottish (stay away from the blood sausages, unless you like hagis), Indian. Try Madhuban Indian restaurant at the corner of State and Glennwood, they can make it mild, Boise hot, New York hot, or Bombay hot. I've always get the Bombay hot, the others merely tickles my refined and discriminating palate...;-].. Get well and if we ever meet, I will treat you and the hubby. Promised. Aikigecko, Yes, Boise do have some decent Japanese cuisine, I've raised a few chefs' eyebrows when I asked for sashimi, instead of sushi, I have not seen much sashimi listed on the menus on the mainland. Since deer have been a subject I'll mention what a friend on a Gold Wing did. He was riding on a county road at night with his 12 yr old boy on the back . He came up on a car facing him sitting on the side of the road with a headlight out. All of a sudden he realized why this was happening and looked back to the front. There it was right in the middle of his lane, a dead deer. He hit it square on and figures he probably went 2 feet in the air. When he landed the Wing shuddered a little but he kept it up. I told him that it was probably a good thing he didn't see it earlier because if he had been on the front brake when he hit it he most likely would have flipped. He was also lucky he had a high backrest otherwise his boy would have been chucked off the back. He was showing me the fur on the bottom of the bike to prove it happened. | ||

Roderick: This new place has killer sashimi, or so the hubby says. Totally puts that place downtown to shame. We haven't been to Zutto's yet, but prolly won't make the trip now. Miso was good, and inari rivaled Grandma's (my true test of a Japanese restaurant). We'll have to give the Indian place a try. Get yer butt back to Boise; I don't have to be healthy to eat Japanese food, just ride my bike. Aikigecko: Sailor=floating Redneck kills me. Jen, Sounds like you know quite a bit about more than just burgers and fries, don't know when I'll be able to make it back up there anytime soon, but I'm always ready to meet new and interesting people. On another note, is it just me ? But I get more nervous around parking lots than I do riding on the streets or on the freeway to work. Roderick |
