XB12XT 2008. Engine stopped when driving very slow for a long time in traffic jam, feels like running out of fuel. Low fuel level, indicator just came on. Turned out that the fuse to the fuel pump was blown. Let the bike cool down a little and replaced the fuse and riding happily ever since. Question: Did anyone experience something similar? Why did the fuse blow?
Theory: Low fuel volume and a lot of heat. Fuel gets warm and heats up fuel pump. Fuel pump parts change dimensions due to heat and starts to increase friction in pump/motor. More current needed to drive pump and fuse blows. Could this be correct? Other theories?

Johan-- Your theory makes sense; it's long been understood that the fuel pumps are cooled by immersion in fuel, allowing the fuel level drop too low is not good for the fuel pump over the long-term.
I'm glad for you that the fuse blew, and that you were able to diagnose the problem, and get rolling again.

There have been a few discussions here about a rash of fuse-blowing fuel pumps. I believe that they have often required replacement.

My 08 XT did the same thing, and have had 17,940 trouble free miles since replacing the fuse.

(Thermodynamics heat goes to cold.)
Engine heats up while idling with no air flow to remove heat. Cooler fuel absorbs heat from the pump. The fuel pump is also creating heat being absorbed by the fuel. (low fuel level = less coolant).Electrical resistance in motor rises. More amps needed to run motor.exceeded
Fuse amps.

Thx for inputs. I especially liked to read the "17 940 trouble free miles since replacing the fuse."

My 2001 M2 Cyclone has been doing the same thing, minus the blown fuse. Just a cut engine and it started back up in 10 minutes.

Your M2 doesn't have a fuel pump though...
