okay its 2001 buell blast .. iv checked and replaced the following
*set static timint
*new boot
*carb cleaned by experienced hd cert mechanic
*coil
*plug
*plug wire
iv also fliped the center diode and disabled the kickstand switch
the bike will start and idle all day long no problems at all BUT it will not rev at all if u rev it it dies almost instantly if u go past 10%
iv found that if you cover the hole circled in the picture with ur finger that it will run awsome like its suppose to all the problems go away
i know the hole isint suppose to be covered but what the heck do i do to fix this the proper way>?
and before u say or ask the diaphram inside the carb has no leaks and is seated correctly and has a good seal its been checked 7 times now
please can someone give me an good answer before i pull my hair out

The hole with an arrow pointing to it should have a breather hose + fitting (I believe coming from the crankcase) coming through it into the air box and connecting to the upper right hand screw on the venturi ring. The upper right hand screw should also be a longer screw with a sleeve over it so that the breather hose can be fit over it and fixed to it with a spring-style clamp. Does that circled portion of the picture with the question mark have a screw in it? Because it shouldn't. That is the hole to the float bowl vent (air inlet), which shouldn't be blocked by anything. i know the circled hole shouldnt have a screw in it and that its a vent.... but my problem is that the only way the bike will rev and the slide will work properly is if this hole is the one that is circled is covered with a screw,finger,et....
im asking why that is and how to fix it |

If the bike won't run without that screw blocking the FLOAT BOWL VENT, there is a serious problem with the carb.
My bet is it wasn't assembled correctly after the cleaning.
When the bowl vent is blocked,atmospheric air pressure doesn't get to the float bowl. As soon as the motor draws some fuel from the bowl the air pressure in the bowl chamber drops and the "venturi effect" can no longer draw fuel into the throat of the carb.
It's almost like everything is working backwards. |

the problem with the carb is that the slide dosent move up when reved . ... iv had the carb looked at by professionals twice and iv had it apart myself 8 times now and im no novice. i just dont know anything about a cv carb.
the boot is good the seal on the motor is good and its kinda hard to put the carb back together wrong is pretty simple setup
if i roll on the throttle and lift the slide up with my finger runs great if i cover the hole with my finer runs great.
its like the motor isint pulling enough vacume to lift the slide by itself untill that hole is pluged
im at my witts end this thing really is a blastard |

You may have answered your own question, look at the chrome plating on that slide.
No idea how it got worn so badly, but it looks pretty shot from that picture. I have a worn slide on a KDX-200, but that's not a CV carb, so I can muscle it with the cable.
I wouldn't be surprised if the lack of chrome caused friction, and the softer aluminum casting underneath the chrome has worn quickly messing up tolerances.
New slides aren't cheap unfortunately. Might be just as easy to get a whole new / used carb. |

I also wondered about the scuffed appearance of the slide, it does look pretty shot!
Perhaps remove it and polish it up thoroughly on a mop so it' real slippery in the bore, polish and clean the bore up too and see if that makes a difference.
It won't last but it may answer that question.
Strip the chrome and anodise?????
My mind keeps telling me, look for a carb from a Honda XR 500. I know it's rice but then you'll probably find more elsewhere on the bike anyway! |

If you blow air into the curved slot at the top of the carb opening does the slide move?
It should.
If not a passage is clogged or the slide is hosed. |

yeah it moves fine if u blow into it. just the motor dosent create vacume to move the slide for some friggen reason... idk what else to do im about to just buy a carb of ebay |

Idle Screw? Is it there? Does it have the appropriate washers? My Blast would idle OK but not rev'. I was missing the little rubber washer on the top end of the idle screw.
Also, you may want to post this on the Thumper portion of the forum.

You have fabricated a bracket to keep the weight of the larger carburetor off the boot?
The old air cleaner mount bolt might be a good place to attach it. |
