Hello. I have a red 2000 Buell Blast that I learned how to ride just this past spring. It had been sitting around for 6-12 months before and it's always had some issues. I took to Harley in may to have a 12 tune up done where they check the breaks. Check all fluid levels. Clean the fuel injector, ect. It's been working fine since then, occasionally I heard some pops. Anyways, my bf and I were riding it about 20-30mpg and coming to a stop sign. I heard a pop, my bf didn't, but either ways the bike total lost power and turned off. When we tried to start it, it sounded like it wanted to turn, like it was almost there, but the engine just would not start up. Any idea what it was and anything I can do to get it started again?

There's an exciter to the ignition circuit that sometimes fails. You have no fuel injector unless it's a very special Blast. Do you have spark when cranking? Pull the plug and hook its wire back up; ground it against the cylinder. Crank the motor over and look for spark. If you have spark there is a fuel flow issue in your carburetor. Buy a factory service manual.

Ok, so not the fuel injector then. I really didn't see any sparks, but I wouldn't know where to look for them either.

Check your battery terminals for tightness.

It's a 10mm wrench. Tighten to "good and snug".

download the service manual. it will help.
if you cant find it. private message me and i will send it to you

The bike needs 3 things to start.
Fuel
Compression
and spark

You have to take the plug out or take the wire off of the top of the plug. (usually requires removing gas tank or at least getting under it somehow. My hands didnt fit.) after the wire is off you can put another plug in it or a screwdriver. I let mine hang with a different plug in it. it rested on the cylinder about half way down on the petcock side. step back dont touch anything and try to start it. you should see a spark/ several sparks. light to dark blue between the gap in the spark plug or the gap between the engine and screwdriver.
But becare you can get shocked.

btw what other problems has the bike had. You said it has always had issues. A little background might help. But start with the spark. I have had occasional problems where i have lost spark, I have disconnected the battery smoked a cig and hooked the battery back it. Then the bike magically had spark again

The Carburetor boot is also a common problem on early Blasts. This boot is the mount for the carburetor to the intake manifold. If it is torn or not in place it will not allow the engine to run properly. Popping or coughing can be a sign of lean fuel/air mixture which can be caused by the boot not being in place or damaged. A friend had a Blast that either would not run or would run poorly. The dealer did not know how to fix it. Moved to another dealer and found that the boot was torn. I would suggest to check that first since it is a common problem.
