1999 x1 with race ecm. stubles off idle, dropps to one cylinder,opening up the throttle cleans it out , so im assuming its rich, plugs are black, air filter is k&n and clean. cruising at speed(65) slight roll on gives a stumble, drop to one cylinder, wot solves the problem, again assuming too rich condition...code 15,16,44 in that order...any advice on where to begin would be greatly appreciated

You've given us a couple of issue...

1.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes...

15 = Intake Air Temp Sensor
16 = Battery Voltage
44 = Bank Angle Sensor

A lot of times if you have multiple DTC's, chances are the battery voltage is low. Original battery? Loose terminals? Are you sure the battery, under a load test, is a good battery? Can take battery to local battery shop for load testing.

And now to diagnose issue # 2.

I'd start with a TPS reset. Hope you own an FSM (Field Service Manual). Any chance you have ECMspy?

As Twoseasons says, first confirm a good battery and clean batt connections. If those are good:

When I had a 'crappy running' episode w/multiple trouble codes, I replaced the eng temp sensor after a consult w/Al at American Sport Bike. Cured my issues. They can fail or shift their tolerance without throwing a specific code. And Firemanjim tells me that the ETS can cause a rich situation ......

first off, thank you for your willingness to help..battery is new Yausa YTX20HL-BS installed on Friday last. cleaned terminals on battery end...dvom across terminals at idle is 14.2 to 14.3.

I dont own a FSM and I dont have the ECMspy either....realizing that this complicates things considerably...

I found a forcewinder intake with (what I am told is) a good AIT sensor , so im taking a chance there...If there is a ohm range on the ETS i can check that of if anyone knows where I can get a FSM, I will gladly by one.

I imagine I will need all of the printed and electronic material/tools I can find as this 99 x1 is in addition to my 07 XB12scg and I have no info with that bike either...that one runs like a top so far..lol

While the ETS can be ohmed, the real problem for me would be measuring temperatures, as the resistance changes w/temp. And all of the following info is from my '01 X-1 manual .... (All temps are F)

50 deg 93,759 ohms
77 deg 41,295 ohms
185deg 4991 ohms
266deg 1539 ohms

This gives you a ballpark for both room temp and 212 F, i.e. boiling water. And the book says the r values can be +/- 20% and still be in tolerance.

I purchased the ecm spy off ebay and used an old laptop I had laying around...this will make life a little easier...so...code 15 IAT ...Im gonna have to trace some wires...the "new IAT" made no difference..reset TPS, no difference, added carbon fiber frame covers , no difference(joking)...Are there any particular trouble spots with the wiring for the IAT?
