I bought a leftover ’06 Uly last November to replace my aging Beemer as my primary two-up bike. I’m loving it with one exception: the passenger seat pegs are too close to the Buell side cases (saddlebags). This makes access difficult for my riding partner of 33 years, who typically mounts the bike by placing the ball of her left foot on the left passenger peg, standing up on the peg, and then swinging her right leg over the backrest and trunk. This requires a 90-degree counterclockwise pivot on the ball of her left foot, and when she does this on the Uly, her heel hits the bag about half way through he pivot, which screws up the entire mounting procedure. Dismounting presents a similar problem.

No problem mounting or dismounting when the left saddlebag is removed.

The relationship of the saddlebags to the pegs also limits the range of motion for my passenger’s feet once she is mounted.

Looking at the peg setup, it looks this can be fixed by machining an extender that will position the peg down, forward, and away from the saddlebags. But I figured that before I got started, I’d ask this forum is anybody else had experienced this problem and, if so, how it was resolved. (Note that getting rid of the passenger is not an option in this case!)

Thanks, Bill

Superbill,

How did you resolve your problem? I am looking at trading in my R1200RT for a XB12X, but after having similar issues after the recent bike show I am looking into possible alternatives.

Thanks.
