I just purchased a 2007 XB12R motor and am having it shipped to Thailand. My friend had purchased an 2001 1200C and put the motor in a custom frame. He said that I could have the old frame with everything minus the brakes and the wiring, and minor parts etc. The XB12R is coming with the rubber mounts on it, however I am planning on removing the rear mount and bolting it to the Sportster frame. Is there a difference in the mounting hole pattern? I haven't seen the motor yet to measure the bolt pattern, however I did get a chance to measure the bolt pattern on the Sportster frame and if I remember it's about 3 1/4" x 5". The front mount I'm not to worried about as I can have one made.
I guess there are a couple of things that I'm concerened about, that being the cylinder height, and the alignment of the motor in the frame in regards to the rear wheel. I think that I had read somewhere where the Buell set 1" to the side versus the Sportster within the frame. Also I noticed that the oil filter on the Buell is pointed down versus the Sportster which is horzontal, would this cause a problem in fitting the motor into the frame. I really like the Sportster frame, and would like to use it as it is free.
On another issue I purchased the ecu, fuel injection, fuel pump. I didn't get the wiring harness as it was not available, how many different types of harness are available for that model? I remember reading awhile back aboutthe person that went from a 2006 carbed motor and replaced it with the fi from a 2007, and had to change heads, and a few other mods that I want go into here. However he did mention about all of the wiring harnesses not mating up, he also mentioned about the handle bar controls being different, as the Sportster on/off switch wouldn't turn the fuel pump on when he turned the on switch on. He also mentioned something about the clutch handle have some kind of switch within it also. Should I buy the handlebar controls for the Buell to replace the ones on the Sportster? I want be home for a few months as I am working in Abu Dhabi now, but would like to continue aquireing parts so that I will have something to do when I get home. Also is the belt drive sprockets the same on the Sporty or would I need to buy a new one to fit the Sporty wheel? I know a lot of questions but you guys and gals have the answers. Hope to hear some answers soon.
