I am stationed in Germany curiosity of Uncle Sam. I own a 2003 XB9S and had a an RT-1 muffler installed a year later after I purchased the the bike in '03. Unfortunately German law mandates that motorcycle mufflers be below 95 db! The RT-1 hit 108.9 db with the quite insert installed. I need help! I enjoy the sound of the RT-1, but not the German's. What would be a quieter muffler to purchase so I can pass inspection.

Bummer... I know what its like over there as I live in Switzerland. The Swiss are also anti loud cans. Just this afternoon I caught the ferry from Romanshorn Switzerland to Friedrichshafen Germany to ride back around lake Constance and as I was getting off the ferry the Police frowned at the noise my bike was making. (Stock Exhaust, valve wired open). Herein Switzerland the only legal aftermarket can is a REMUS. I think you may find it legal in Germany too. Good luck.

I looked into the REMUS exhaust systems.... WOW they do not like to give those things away. The cheapest I found was $949.00, and that is a bit much. The RT-1 that is on there now has taken a beating do to the low ground clearance. Are there any other mufflers that are EU street certified? Or should I just stuff the RT-1 with steel wool and call it day?

Thats true, the Remus is not the cheapest can out there, but, with the spuds out they sound superb. Why not get the cheapest can you can find to make the test then swap back. Its very common for Harley Riders in the UK to do this. They spring for Screaming Eagles and Vance & Hines cans then, come test time, swap back to stock then change back after.
I feel for you as I hate petty rules.
Good luck.
