Dan I see you are looking hard at gauntlet style gloves. They are great for protection but not the easiest to get on and off. In addition they are going to be warm. The chicane boots will give great protection and can be used on the track but are not the best to walk in. It's good to have protective gear. I currently have technics leather suit setup boots for aggressive riding/track days. Joe Rocket Ballistic nylon for early spring and late fall riding with over the angle touring boots. I need to get some mesh for the summers here in the mid Atlantic. Just my input. Joe | ||

Im definately ANTI MESH, dont need it melting to me as im body surfing down the interstate at 80 mph.... I wear a HEIN Gericke leather jacket with armor in it year round, ive sweated my arse off for a year in that thing in the las vegas desert heat. i have perforated icon wrist length gloves but ive had a friend go down with short gloves and they came off!!! | ||

I wish I could have all the money back I have spent on various "point solutions" for different jackets and pants so I could spend it on a Aerostitch Roadcrafter. I'm not sure if I would want the one piece or two piece setup... probably the two piece one, but only if it works the same as the one piece one to step in / step out. I haven't actually tried the stitch, obviously. It's not the kind of thing that is laying around to pull on at your local wal-mart. But I have ridden with people wearing them and they look like they work perfectly. The big advantage is all the little details about how they work and how they do it. All day comfort for the sport touring trip, and on and off in 30 seconds for the daily commute to work. That being said, I am now using first gear jacket and pants (Killamanjaro Air), and it is exceptionally good stuff as well. Nice and cool when you want it to be, nice and hot when you don't (via some incredibly compact but incredibly warm zip in liner material). The Jacket is holding up very well, but now with 5 years of heavy use the velcro isn't what it used to be and some of the zippers are showing age. I have a set of Joe Rocket boots (over the calf) that I would definitely not recommend. They are not proving very durable. An over the calf boot is definitely the way to go though, just keep another pair of shoes at work sitting under your desk and change when you get there. I have been getting my stuff from newenough lately, and been very happy. | ||

I have seen it too but it was in the blurb for a non-mesh fabric. I've not seen it again from an independent source. It makes me wonder whether it's a myth. (If you don't remember, don't worry about it.) | ||

I've got a host of Aerostcih Roadcrafter suits and have "slid" several. They perform amazingly well. No "grabbing" like leather . . . which works better on the track that the streets. And . . the Aerostich works (FOR ME) in temps from below freezing (when I was testing the S3) to 120oF like at the 1999 Press intro. | ||

yea the stich is a nice setup. dont have the spare cash around for it right now tho. im mainly just looking at gloves and boots right now. and im getting the draggin liners to wear underneith jeans on my daily commutes. i figure i can just change in a bathroom. | ||

I think my next set of gloves might be the "cheap" Held's that are at newenough. The $60 Buell puck gloves fit and worked perfect, but wore out too fast. The $15 Joe Rocket replacement close outs (nobody like yellow) are OK, but a little too cheap, even for me. The Helds are a little more then the Buell puck gloves, but if they last 3 or 4 seasons, I am way ahead. | ||

I got a kevlar mesh Motoport jacket that is the "non-melting" variety, and it truly does flow air better than a t-shirt, really amazing. I got it off'n ebay for half price of new, just not my first choice of color. I'm going to get the matching pants for the 100° days here. I just got an Aerostich two-piece I can't imagine it being 'suitable' in frequent high-temp places such as Las Vegas. Definitely look into the Motoport kevlar mesh suits, they have a one-piece suit, and 2-piece, analagous to Aerostich. Another advantage to 2-piece is you can buy them sort of in 2 'installments'. They are expensive, but feel it when wearing it. |
