I have a 2002 M2L that has been sitting outside under a cover for four (yes, FOUR) years after an accident. I cranked it a few times after the accident, and all seemed fine internally. I have not cranked it in at least three years.

Now, finally I am thinking of getting it going again. Simple question: What do I do? I know I need to change the oil and battery, but are there other things to consider? My mechanical ability is somewhere between low and middle.

Help me Bad Weather Bikers. You're my only hope!

Replace the transmission lubricant.

Replace the fuel.

Replace oil filter.

If you feel lucky you can skip cleaning the varnish from the carburetor.

Check spark plugs and tires.

Crank her up and go for a safe slow ride around the block.

Might need to lube the clutch and throttle cables.

Would also be a good idea to replace brake fluid front and rear.

Good luck!

Thanks, Blake. I'll put these suggestions to use and let you know how it goes. I'm looking forward to getting back on the road!

The good thing is that a 2002 M2L is a great bike to bring back to life.

Keep up posted!
