The race ECM is matched to the now unavailable Buell race pipe. The Buell race pipe had a similar low and low mid output to the stock pipe, but much higher high mid and top end output.

To match that pipe, the Buell race ECM has a much richer top end response, and it has spark advance that isn't retarded into red line like the stock ECM is.

The algorithmic behavior of the race ECM is essentially identical to the stock ECM with regard to open and closed loop operation, AFV setting, etc. It does NOT operate the XB12 servo valve, however.

You should not run one with a stock muffler, there is no gains in that configuration.

A remap is generally better than a race ECM, if done right, because running a race ECM with an aftermarket pipe will get inconsistent AFV setting depending upon where it is cruised. However, it depends how much the pipe on the bike is mismatched to the Buell stock or Race ECM. If it's close, the gains aren't worth the additional costs.

It is worth noting that if you had a pipe that made 10% more power at ALL RPMs, the stock ECM would compensate well through the AFV setting algorithms. The trouble is, few pipes have the same fueling curve shape as a stock pipe, just shifted up 10%. Most have some RPMs where they make a lot more, and others where they make less or just not much more. Since the AFV can only scale the entire curve up by a constant percentage, it all depends on the fueling curve for configuration changes as to whether a stock or race ECM is a good match.

thanks for your response,i guess that re mapping is the way to go for my issue.i have an 07 xb12scg that when starting cold the idle surges and stalls, lean pops through the intake when starting out until warm and even when warm it will still pop when starting off intermittantly, the dealer had it for 6 weeks and they tried 2 ecms,1 engine speed sensor,1 cam sensor, and finally settled on a throttle body.after all that its still not fixed, and i supposed it wont be fixed.buell you can have your bike back.

I'm betting the Buell Field Service Tech will have it fixed in no time. These things are not very complex and the Field Service guys I've worked with are REALLY good.

Keep us posted.

Court,
Is a Buell Field Service Tech the same as a area representative? How would you get in touch with one, if they're not the same?

No.

The Field Service Engineer is, to the best of my knowledge, an actual engineer. The couple that I have had experience with are thoroughly trained factory develop engineers who taken a career turn toward field service. I'm not sure it's a requirement, I think they are graduate engineers who have a ton of development hands on service experience.

The last guy I dealt with was the guy who set the suspension up and prepared the TT for my ride in Wisconsin at the introduction. Likely one of the sharpest techs I've met. I could name about 9 others, but they generally don't do "outcall".

The Area Rep or S.O.A.R. (Service Operations Area Representative) *****I THINK**** is the corporate person who acts as a liasion between the DM (District Manager) and the Service Techs.

I'm not sure that's quite right, it's the general idea though.

Your BUELL DEALER is your path to all these folks.

I hope that helps.

when i said i would be there early to socialize meant that i hoped to have some time to talk to the tech about my issues and possibly details of the systems and operations of the systems.not to make a new friend, when i go to technical training in rockliegh nj for volvo i arrive early so i might have time to discuss technical issues with the instructor and other techs.besides i arrived at 7:30 and he showed up at 8:30
for a 8;00 appointment
