My 99 X1 wont start, and I am stumped. I rode to work on a super hot day (104), and after getting home & shutting it off, it now wont start. Battery was dead the next day (it was getting weak anyway), but even jumping it, it wont run. Fuel pump comes on & pressures up, turns over fine. Sounds like it wants to start, but doesnt. It has always been a little hard starting cold. Seems to be getting fire. No check engine lights came on before turning it off, and it ran perfect up until I shut it off. It pinged just a bit during the ride from a standing start (never does that), but I babied it home because of the heat.

Could the rear head temp sensor go bad & not allow it to start? Are there any issues with fuel pumps or the fuel filters? Do coils go bad often?

Honestly, this is the first problem i've ever had.

I'd suspect the battery #1. A faulty battery can manifest itself with some odd behavior in the FI bikes.
