Hey all, I have a problem with my 2000 M2. It has the sidewinder intake and therefore i've delt with the issue of the separation of the rubber from the manifold. I used a simple hose clamp to fix that problem and it ran fine for several months. Basically, it runs fine when the clutch is pulled or the bike is in neutral (at any rpm, idle to redline) but as soon as i let the clutch out and accelerate or hold the throttle steady, the bike consistently backfires very violently.. and shoots flames out of the borla exhaust.. before all of this I had also been having some clutch issues.. basically occasionally in first gear the clutch felt like it was having trouble releasing... I had yet to mess with that due to the fact i plan on putting a performance clutch in later this summer... What could my problem be? electrical (it has new correctly gapped plugs and a clean air filter)? clutch/tranny? I have no friggin idea.... help me out asap it is WAY to nice outside to be driving my car...

I went through the whole switch stand problem last fall and have bypassed that already.. But i'll check it again to make sure the connection is good. Steve, what are you talking about with a short out on the clutch lever interlock switch. HTH?? sorry for the ignorance but if you could tell me where it is and how i check it out it would save me a lot of hassle. Thanks.

Similar to the sidestand switch but functions off the clutch lever. Doesn't appear to fail as often as the sidestand switch, bypassing is the same. Just be aware that if you do this your bike will probably be able to start in gear, clutch out, with the sidestand down, so don't hit the starter button accidently with the key on. Did that once while fiddling with lights on the S2 but caught it before it started and hit anything.

Oh yea and for some reason the Speedo and Odometer has been cutting out lately. Sometimes completely doesn't pick up any speed or mileage (has power/display/light) or the needle jumps irregularly and mileage isn't recorded correctly. It sporadically occurred last fall but wasn't frequent enough to troubleshoot it down. But it started acting up again last week. Probably unrelated but still needs attention. I plan on taking off the gauge cluster (aftermarket with a tac) and checking the connections on the back of the unit, but i was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and an easy solution. Less time in the shop = more time riding!

Should be a couple of wires plugging into the clutch lever assembly someplace, I think

The other electrical gremlins you just described start to sound like a bad ground or marginal electrical contact issue. Take off your seat and check all the fuse contacts, pulling each one out and cleaning it off and reinserting them. Sometimes this does wonders, especially if a bike has a few years on it. A couple of people in the past have said doing this on their M2 or other model Buell has solved many intermittant issues.

I'll look at my M2 when I get home to confirm the clutch switch. (Hopefully I'm not confusing Blast issues with M2 issues.)
