Last night the wife and I swapped the XB 12 primary gearing on her blast, we put on the XB12 front pulley and chain, along with a XB primary cover and tensioner. upon getting it all buttoned up started it up, and it sounded liek the chain was over tensioned, so I adjusted the chain and it made almost no difference. So today I tore it all back off to check to see if it was rubbing anyplace odd, or something like that, nothing, so I put it all back together with new gaskets and started it, same loud ass primary! Any ideas? I know the bike I got the gear and chain from, it was running great and still is! it had some miles on it but not enough to wear out a primary chain. the adjuster is within limits and the shoe on it is new. I just test rode it and it rides perfect cept for a loud primary |

check the primary chain alignment. the chain should be straight from compensator sprocket to the clutch hub. lay a straight edge on the outside end of the chain from front to back and see how far it is off. they sell shims that go behind the compensator sprocket assembly. there should only be like a couple thousanths difference between the comp. and clutch hub |
