This brand is called FAMMZ and they seem reasonably priced. The armor would have to be upgraded obviously but for less than $500. Or is this like the helmet quality issue.."depends what you're going to put in it."

I personally would avoid the suit. No CE armor, no sale. Not to mention it does not talk about the seams on the suit. If you are looking at the 500.00 dollar range head for Fieldsheer or Joe rocket.

I once bought a top of the line Fieldsheer (Sudco) suit by calling them and asking if they had any last years colors or overstocks, blems etc. At the time they were asking 1,200 for a Sudco suit but I got it for 300.00

Granted they were white and pink...........

I rode them around like that for a couple of weeks and had really long hair sticking out of the helmet. At 140 pounds I was not looking very "guy like" from behind. Cars would pull up next to me at lights and beep the horn all the time. You should have seen the guys in those cars faces when I looked over sporting a moustache!

I took black leather dye to them after a couple of weeks of that.............

SKY, that sounds rather er uncomfortable. I hoped you gave those fellas a wink.LOL
I know the suit is lacking but I find it unforgiveable to pay extra just for a name. Of course the upper ranges of quality ($1000) are going to be held to another standard. I'll probably need alterations immediately due to my lanky frame and I figured any improvements with the suit could be made at the time of fit adjustment. Thanks for the info. NUTS

Personally, I wouldn't do it. If you can find a vendor that will cut you a deal you can get name brand suits for the price of the unknown brands. I bought a 2-pc Alpinestars GPU suit for $580, a buddy of mine bought a 2-pc Joe Rocket GPX suit for a little over $500, and I've seen Teknic Chicane suits at trackside vendors go for ~$400. Also, Parts Unlimited keeps an updated list of closeouts on their website. Only an authorized dealer can view the closeouts, but if you can find one that will work with you they can keep an eye out for a closeout suit in your size.

Nutsosane, Heck at least someone thought I was hot. I have to admit I never rode that suit to West Hollywood.............

Do find a local company for a suit though. Call around, hit the web and you will find a good deal on name brand stuff.

Just extra food for thought: A friend of mine a few years ago bought an "el cheapo" no name suit. You shoulda seen the road rash when the seam split...........

My major problem is fit. I'm 6'3" and 185lb. They don't make a suit in 44 Tall.

Nutsosane, Ouch! Bad news is you are not likely going to find any suit that fits you properly. Might get the height right but it will be loose. You are headed for custom land.........

Do try all the leather maufacturers. Call them tell them you can not find a suit off the rack and ask if they have anything that will fit. Kiss butt and tell them you had your heart set on a set of their fine leathers, You might get lucky.

Nuts, have you thought of Motoport? They make kevlar suits that are very nice. I am about your size (6'3.5" and 195lbs) and I just ordered a 2 piece custom suit. I already have another of their Kevlar jackets and pants and have to say it is the best stuff I have ever seen. Not cheap, but worth every penny

Hey Nuts..

I'm six feet, and have a few pounds on ya, I've recently gotten a pair of Joe Rocket leather pants and already had a Fieldsheer jacket (it matches the one piece in my profile pic). Found pretty good deals on both online.. You just have to search for 'em.

The reason I'm mentioning both parts is because the jacket is a 50 and the pants are a 38. Go figure, Rocket leather pants seem to run a little large. I mix and matched the sizes to fit me better. Now I'm sowing the Rocket waist zipper to the jacket, giving me the full zip together that's needed for track days.

Another option is to go with something like Vanson, Custom fit. Not the cheapest, but without a doubt will fit you right the fist time. Pick a 'standard' design/suit/parts and have them modified by Vanson to fit you. Pick one of each and you would be good to go.. Problem is, you will pay more then $500 buck for both halves. The other side it you may not have to buy another one for years and the high quality stuff should last longer..

I have been to the motoport sight before but was not sold on the idea. Custom, phew that'd certainly break the bank. I was thinking of a quality older suit that I could send out to be "customized" or find someone local who can make leather alterations. As of yet no luck. I'm considering any available option as I have a goal for track time this season. NUTS

Frank Thomas suits are available through a national retail chain, name not to be mentioned (but where would you go to get gear for a cycle, wink wink). The Strike 2 suit is very simular in apperance to the Dainese Bora suit but for about $1300.00 less. The Strike 2 goes for about $500.00. I would have gotten one, but I am allergic to neoprene which they use in the collar.

cyclegear carries the Frank Thomas gear here in the states.

I bought a 2 piece first gear vented leather suit from newenough.com last year.
It has CE armor, velcro for pucks, and either an 8in or full zipper for attatchment.
all for less than $600 including a pair of leather tourmaster gauntlets with C-F armor
and finger vents. All in black of course. I recently added the new black and orange Buell patches.

There are deals on good gear out there, you may have to hunt for them though.

I just received an Alpinestars Vector 1 piece suit from Dave in Appleton. At $850, you would almost expect a lesser suit. This suit has most of the features of their race replica suit selling for twice as much. I am very happy that I made this choice and didn't go with something that I would just want to replace later.

I had sent back a Joe Rocket suit (GPX). It fit tight around the legs and loose around the chest. The price difference between these suits wouldn't have been enough to ease my dissatisfaction.

I either heard or read somewhere that a suit is the second biggest investment in riding equipment next to the bike. It might be a good idea to treat it like such.

Guys I just got the cortech magnum leather jacket. I also ordered the leather riding pants from cortech and they fit fine in large and can zip to the jacket. I currently have a broken collarbone and can not get the jacket on. The jacket appears that it is going to be very tight with the armor and removable liner. My question is should the jacket be looser so to fit warm clothes underneath or how should a riding leather sport jacket fit? Should I just order the xl. tanks

On June 1st, I had the pleasure of crash testing my Alpinestars Vector suit and Tech Series back protector. After a pretty good hit to my elbow, ribs and other assorted parts, I made out with just some bruising. I am glad I didn't break my ribs, since the bruising hurt enough for a few weeks. My left elbow took the most sliding damage, and still didn't wear through or blow a seem. I would recommend this suit to anyone, and when I go to get another, I will stay with this brand.
