I'm going, and I have a room with an extra bed for C.J. if he doesn't go Philly.

If you check the SpringFast thread, you will see there are about 20 people going so far. At least 15 from the Albuquerque and Santa Fe area.

Adam, I got out on the S2 for a final ride Sunday, I'll post some pics later.
Good to see you out an about, that looks like hwy 337, south of 14.

10-4 Bart, thanks. I looked for that thread but I guess I missed it.

I wasn't comfortable enough with the bike to make the trip last year, looking forward to it this year though.

I don't think I'll be attending this year. Too much going on, and not sure if ill still be living here then.

Regarding the 1125s, I'm not sure I would recommend one, brilliant though they are when they're working.

That said, I think the 08 is the better year, because it doesn't burn out stators. The issues with the 08s are "fully resolved" for the most part.

- Early 08 turn signals burned out. No problems with the replacements, and I use 1125 rear turn signals on all my bikes now.
- The 08 ECU tune was... well, the motorcycle ran. The race ECU fixes this completely, and if you don't have one, buy one.
- The stock ECU tune on the 08s ran the bikes really hot, and I did have both coolant boilover and fuel boiling issues. The race ECU fixed the coolant issue completely, and the race ECU + heat shielding has reduced fuel heat. I do have a bit of "Buell smell" in my garage after shutdown, but... eh. Whatever.
- The current draw on shutdown is resolved with an updated cluster, and there's a tech tip for it.

The 09 stator is still a bit of an open issue, and I don't want a random known weak component in my bikes. : )

... still missing New Mexico. You guys aren't helping with beautiful pictures of desert and SUN.}

Aw Dude, you wouldn't want to be here. It's sooooo cold in the morning, you need an insulated nut sack to ride.
And the windy season is just getting ready to start. Nothing like getting blown around during a ride.
(how's that? Make you feel better?) ; )

Insulated nut sack?? now there's an idea! I'll get to work on a patent. it'll be like a beer cozy, only for your balls. : ) maybe a leather exterior with sheepskin lining?? and a drawstring to keep it fastened.

Nah, the 1125 dumps enough heat into my nuts to keep them nice and warm in the winter.

I miss the wind too. It was variety. Right now, about the only variety I get is what type of car I'm staring at the brakelights of. : (

Sooooo... plans are coming together for a three to four month trip on my Buell.

I am looking at April 20th to 30th in central and northern New Mexico.

Albuquerque
Santa Fe
Bandelier
Jemez Mountains
Taos

Then the four corners and out to northern Arizona. Let me know if there are some roads around there in early spring not to miss...

I know that the snow may be an issue that early, so not opposed to heading south of ABQ for a while either.

If you come out the following month, you can make Springfast: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=37&post=2304517#POST2304517
But as for roads, you want to ride the high road to Taos, The enchanted circle, and between Angel Fire and Mora.
The Jemez is nice, but the road will be crap until around June when the salt, sand, and other crap from the winter is washed off the road.

I hope to catch ya when you pass through this time. Missed you on your epic trip a few years back.

Here are some of the Northern NM roads we love that Bart mentioned. I just added the maps to aid you in case you are unfamiliar with the area.

Enchanted circle: https://www.google.com/maps/ms?msid=21113730320062 4168421.0004d65179209c522d719&msa=0

From Albuquerque to Sipapu to Mora to Angel Fire to Taos & back down the High Road to Albuquerque:
https://www.google.com/maps/ms?msid=21113730320062 4168421.0004c8906f3fb66b046fd&msa=0

Angel Fire to Taos, continued to Tres Piedras through Tierra Amarilla:
https://www.google.com/maps/ms?msid=21113730320062 4168421.0004d651e30729664a5f4&msa=0&ll=36.551175,- 105.920139&spn=0.91344,2.171173

These are all in the same area, and there are plenty of areas to explore.

Hello All,

Time to start planning rides. Dave and I put our heads together and came up with dates for a Lake City weekend. 18 and 19 May. This is the same weekend as Bart's Springfast event and we don't want to step on anyone's toes but it is the best weekend for dodging the holidays. If any of you can't swing the three day Springfast, you are more than welcome to meet up with the Colorado gang for a quick overnighter in Lake City. I reserved 6 rooms for the night of the 18th at the Alpine Moose. Three single kings and three double queens. Prices are $80 and $99 respectively.

Call Bruno to reserve yours: (800) 650-1221 or (970) 944-2415

It is always a great ride down and back. Bruno is a fantastic chef and the meals at the motel restaurant are always great.

Let's see if we can have a good turnout for this first gathering of the year.

Cheers,

Bob

Shame it will be the same weekend, but, it is what it is.
I will be doing Lake City about 5 times this summer. At least twice on the dirt from Silverton, and the rest on various sport rides.
It may be a good alternative to the SpringFast ride for those that are on the fence. Definitly great food up there, Bruno is quite the character!

I guess I'm just going to have to go with Bart.

Anyone ride this last weekend? great weather. A few of us (my dad, Buellnick, and I) went down to Mountainaire and had lunch. I switched bikes with my dad on the way back. The little 650 Husqvarna Terra handles very well... I was surprised!

Yup!
Friday, I rode up to Madrid for lunch, and did the crest on the way home.
Saturday, I went dirt biking with Kim west of Rio Rathole.
Sunday, CJ, Kim, and I rode down to mountainaire for lunch.
We saw one of those 650 husky's at Dawns on Sunday morning, while waiting for CJ.

I saw an Orange Uly out on 337 last Saturday on our way back from Mountainair. but it doesn't appear that it was any of you I guess lol.

I Probably wont be riding much the next few weeks. We sold our house, and have to be out by mid April. We will be spending our free time packing everything, and cleaning out stuff.

Yeah, Hopefully it wont be for too long though. I have a bunch of applications out. Have had some interest, but a lot of the jobs I applied for are being affected by the sequestration... so we will see.

I think if I havent had any bites shortly after we are moved out I will be asking a friend to use their address for my resumes and look into getting a phone with a local Dallas area code. I know a lot of employers wont hire outside of the local area...even if you are willing to pay your own moving expenses. Only time will tell.

Like the "windscreen" on the CR!

Adam, congrats on the sale. I can relate to the job front. I've been applying for jobs in Philadelphia for a few months now and every time I seem to get a good bite, they back off when realizing I'm not in the area. I've even put my sister's address on my resume, which helped me get callbacks, but not being there to walk in for an in person interview is a handicap.

So... with all that in mind... I'm moving, too. I turning in my notice to my shit job and will finish that on 3/23. I'll be driving out to Philadelphia on the 24th. It takes two days to get there driving all day, so I should be there by late on the 25th. At least, that's the plan for now.

One wrinkle is that I was rear ended in my truck a few weeks ago. I'm trying to schedule my repair to be done by then. Kind of a tight squeeze. We'll see how it goes. I have a job that may give me another look if I am in the area. They definitely don't want to pay a relo.

My tentative plan is to get a tow hitch installed on my truck and load my bike into the truck and pull a small U-Haul trailer with the things I'll be moving. My wife is going to stay here for now and continue her job search. I'm hoping to start working soon and save some money by living with my sister for a bit. Angela will come out in the summer and we expect to be there for two years or so.

I would not be able to sell my house, so I'm going to rent it to my son. He's already got a kid ready to move in with him and if they pay even a part of what I owe on it each month, it'll help me cover my bills. As long as Angela and I get jobs that pay NEARLY what we are used to making, we'll be ok. The up side is that we have all our other debts paid off.

I'm planning to take the Uly right away and use it to commute, ride to the shore, venture out on day/weekend trips around the northeast. Should be pretty fun. I'll leave the Firebolt here for now and when Angela is ready to come out, I'll bring it then.

If anyone wants to get together before I go, let me know. I'm working Saturday but get off at 1530. I'm off Sunday, but don't know yet what the plan will be. It's my favorite 'holiday' and the last Sunday for me to be here, so...

CJ,
bummer about the accident, hope you can get it repaired in time.
As for towing, the bumper of our Frontiers is rated at 300# tongue weight, and 3000# trailer. You should have no problems with a small trailer.
I towed my 3600# Mustang from New Hampshire to Las Cruces with my '89 Nissan Hardbody using just the safety bumper mount. No problems.
I would like to get in one last ride with you, if you could find the time. I plan on riding somewhere Saturday on the 1125, probably Mora or something.
1530 Is getting kind of late in the day for any long rides. I can go Sunday also, even if it's just to Santa Fe for lunch ; )
Gonna miss you bud, good luck !

Yes, not being local sucks...the problem is there is no shortage of local candidates in most cases. Why entertain requests from non-locals when you already have to narrow the pool down as it is? I have no doubt that you will be able to find something... and moving out there will definitely help.

I may have to do the same and take a family friend up on their offer when the time comes and temporarily stay in his apartment there, but I'm trying to avoid that at least until our baby is born.

Well CJ, I'll definitely miss riding with you, but I know you gotta do what you gotta do. I dont think I will be able to hook up for a ride, but I definitely wish you the best on your journey!

Thanks, guys. I'll miss the rides here too. Of course, I'll be back from time to time. I own a house here and my son and my in-laws are all here. I'll ping youse when I'm back. I was told that the repair schedule won't be able to get my truck in until March 25th, so I will push back my departure until after Easter. That gives me an extra couple opportunities to ride.

Bart, Sunday I can do something. My brother in law and his family are in town, so I can't be gone all day, but we can squeeze something in. I'll call you Saturday.
