Took a short rid today with one of the cops from SAPD. Went up 25 to 599, then down to Madrid on 14.

Tried out my new photo rig to take photos while riding. I kinda like it but it's slightly less flexible than I had hoped.

Then we went up the crest road, too. It was ok up to the ski area. Then it got a bit sketchy. Stopped at the 10K parking area and turned around because it was a bit too mushy.

On the way back, there was a horrible traffic jam on I-40 that had me in a stop & go for a while, over an hour. I was kind of overheating, so I booked it down the shoulder, talked to a cop, kept going, eventually got home without incident.

Like Nick said, "ouch" on the bags. Nice day for a ride. Beat my day...changed oil in both holes and then out for a quick shakedown. Pics look good, how does the cam mount?

Hey CJ,
I was out on 14 yesterday, also. I missed the traffic jam, by getting off on Tramway.
Saw on the news it was a burned semi.
Bummer about the bags, I think your definitely going to have to reinforce them.
I don't think PlastiWeld alone will hold them together...

I spent a couple of hours out at the track this weekend. My buddy's girlfriend got her dad to rent it out as he has some stock in the track and gets 25 free hours/ year.

It was fun, but I am definitely out of practice. Didn't time myself, but felt like I was really slow getting back into it. I felt as though I had gotten a bit faster by the end of the day, so I guess that is a good thing... and no one wrecked ; ).

Awesome, for you...what about the rest of us? I'd bet most of us could use some track time to grind the rust off too?

JK, it really is cool that you have the connections to take advantage of an opportunity like that.

Any action pics?

++ to Agfish's question about the cop...

I used to use the shoulder in traffic jams, until an officer nicely told me that the shoulder was for broken down vehicles ONLY. I didn't make the argument that I was going to be if I didn't get some air into the radiators (the 1125 was hot & getting hotter).

I think this was before the race ECU, though - it runs a lot cooler after that change.

There were only 3 of us who were on bikes, and her father brought one of his cars out to go around. With the lack of medical people out there we were only allowed to have 2 bikes on the track at a time, and we obviously couldn't be out there with the car on the track, so I only got about 3 20-minute sessions, but that is better than nothing.

Track season is starting back up soon... you should get out there and grind your rust off. ; ) I don't think I will have much time this year to get out there. Not as much as I'd like anyway. : (

Well, I was kind of a sneaky bastard about it. I was tooling along the left shoulder until it started to get thin and I'd have to merge into the left lane. This was right around the time you hit the exit for the old highway, but there was a cop on the right shoulder at that exit forcing everyone to keep on the highway, so I wasn't going to be able to exit. I got over and split between a few semis until I could get on the right shoulder a few yards later. Then I noticed a deputy sitting perpendicular to the road down where the on ramp joins the freeway. So, since I was riding the shoulder, rather than wait to be intercepted, I rode right up to him. When he rolled down his window, I asked if he knew how long it was going to be since I was overheating. He said not too much longer as they were dropping sand and would open it soon. So I told him I was going to pull down a ways and wait. I went down past the on ramp, pulled over, checked my phone, etc for a few mins, and then the cars started to move. I started it up and jumped in and was moving pretty good with the traffic, maybe 35mph or so. Then by Tramway, it was speeding up to 45 or so. It was Wyoming before we got up to freeway speeds.

at least the cop seemed ok about it. I'd probably do the same in the situation, especially with a Buell... those things get hot real quickly if there is no air movement....

Pics look good, how does the cam mount?

I found this arm from a guy on ADV Rider. Basically the clamp on the bars, the arm, and the camera mount are three different parts I put together to make it. Works ok. I put it on the right side just because I didn't have a good spot to mount on the left. There are a lot of wires and junk running around the bars on these bikes.

So, my S3 needs bottom end work after all,
according to the tech, and I trust this guy, the crankshaft bearing is shot, needs connecting rods, pistons, rings, something done for the cylinders....any advice? I really want to do this right so it will last as I am putting this bike back together as she was my first Buell...money is not really the problem but I don't want to go crazy either.
Thanks in advance

What's wrong with the rods that they need to be replaced? Any competent machine shop should be able to resize the big end with oversize bearings. BIG BORE KIT!

may have misheard the tech, but he is waiting for me to come see the damaged parts, I'm thinking Revolution for a kit and to balance/lighten the crankshaft.

Art,
I had bad luck with Revolution cylinders. that being said, I can't brag enough about the NRHS kit I have in my S2.
Going on 25,000 trouble free miles since Aaron squared it away after the Santa Fe HD fiasco.
104 RWHP is nice...

Hey Bart,
After reviewing the links you sent I see that NRHS is probably at least as good as any, price is better anyway. Add in your personal story where Rev is concerned is the kicker for me. I will ask Andre his opinion and then make my decision. I really want that bike back on the road, it was my first Buell and has other sentimental attachments for me. Wish me luck.

I think we ALL have sentimental attachments to our bikes.

I trust your bike is in good hands, and I'm sure your going to love whatever kit you end up choosing.

That's half the reason I haven't traded my 1125R in on a Uly... it was my first "brand new vehicle" ever.

This is why my Firebolt will never be a track bike. No matter how hard I get pushed, it's going to stay like it is. I will probably find another Firebolt to track, though. Whenever that spare money eventually ends up in my account. Haven't seen it yet!

Someone ask Bart about his new motorcycle. It's not a Buell, but we'll let that slide.

Wow, CJ, you don't waste time, do you?

Yes, I parted with my much loved Honda ST1300, in favor of a new Yamaha super tenere.

Yamaha XTZ1200, Suzuki DR650, Buell S2

After that 50 mile test ride a month ago, I was in love. The more I read about it on the Yamaha forum, and compared to the GSA and the new Triumph, I knew this was going to be a great bike.

Yamaha XTZ1200B

yup, its not a Buell. I hate stepping foot in a Hardley stealership for anything. The CR is on it's way out the door, as soon as the court case is finished. I've had such a love/hate relationship with that thing, i'm not surprised I haven't put a 9mm slug through it yet.

I will miss the big Honda, that was a fine bike for eating up some miles, and not shabby at all in the handling department.
This Yamaha is fun as hell in the corners, rips up the dirt, and is comfortable as hell while doing it.
Yea, I'm liking it alot!

lets go dirt biking!
