Tim, Mr. Nance;

Thanks for both generous offers. Since Jim has 2 while I'm borrowing one he won't be put completely out, so I've decided to take him up on his offer. Again, I greatly appreciate both offers.

Yes, borrowing... I did some sleuthing today and found out the G0500.1AKF belt will be a running change for the 2010 MY. So my hope is that the AKF belt will eliminate the issues that some have reported with the AKE belt.

Thanks to such a great group of people!

VIR next weekend!

Here are some pics from last weekends adventure. My destination was just outside Columbus, Ohio. Most people thought I was heading there for something motorcycle related. Well, the only thing motorcycle related was that I was riding one of mine there and back. That is until I realized how close I was to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. So I just had to swing by for a couple of photo ops:

MHoFM 1

MHoFM 2

The reason for my excursion was to attend the Buick Performance Group Nationals. What drew me to the event was their special theme for this years event - a GSX reunion. The Buick GSX was built from 1970-1972 and a total of 846 were built over those 3 years (678 in 1970, 124 in 1971 and 44 in 1972). The big draw to the GSX reunion is that they had confirmation from owners that just over 100 GSX's would be present. Imagine, a car that they built less than a 1,000 of nearly 40 years ago and here's your chance to see 100+ of them. For those into statistics, that's about 12% of the cars built. All in one place at one time. The venue was National Trail Raceway in Hebron, OH. Now, you would think that a car that less than 1,000 were built of over 3 model years would be unique enough, but here are some GSX's that were at the show that were even more unique.
THE Buick GSX prototype.

GSX prototype

It's amazing how many things are different on this car than the production version. One thing, for instance, was the wild interior that puts the interior of the Pierre Cardin Javelin's interiors to shame.

GSX prototype interior

And then there was the only GSX that was breathed on by Motion Performance when new (one of 2 Buicks they worked their magic on back in the day).

Motion GSX

It seemed like the next GSX I looked at trumped the previous one. Here's 1 of 2 factory test mules (the other was a 'normal' GS) used for testing the dealer installed Stage 2 package.

Stage 2 factory test mule

Stage 2 engine

Owned by the same family that owns the GSX prototype, this was the only black GSX built - a 1971 model.

only black GSX

Heck, I couldn't even escape them on my way home. Here's 2 of the 3 GSX's from NC that were at the gas station I filled up at in Ghent, WV. The Lime Mist one is a 1971, while the Apollo White one is a 1970.

Hey are you guys following me?

And a rest stop in Chapel Hill to stop in and see Jim Rainey.

C3 or 3C

I think they were dyslexic when they labeled the parking garage - instead of 3C it should've been C3...

And you are probably wondering why a Buell guy like Buicks. Well, the 1970 Buick GS Stage 1 had the highest torque rating of any GM musclecar engine at 510 ft/lbs. Sure, it was only rated at 360 hp (which the NHRA realized was a 'little' low-balled) but there's been many a Stage 1 that has humiliated a Hemi MoPar.

Can you say underdog?

Hey U4, remember when we talked about riding Puerto Rico? I found pictures of the road through the Caribbean National Rain Forest today. It is the only rain forest in the US Forestry Service.

Hey everyone,

Don't know if I'm special or if the news just hasn't hit BadWeB yet. I had to sneak onto BadWeB over lunch and post this. I got a text message this morning from Jim Rainey (U4euh) saying that he will be getting out of the hospital and going home tomorrow!

Hearing this news, even though his struggle may not be completely over, has made my day!

Carlos, I know it as El Junque.
My wife is from Puerto Rico. We went there last time we visited PR.
Wonderful place to visit. Part of the first Predator movie was filmed there.
High humidity but not hot.
We took the guided tour. Very educational. We saw the world's smallest Orchid there. Smaller than a finger nail on child. And the Torch flowers a beautiful.

Yep, 1125R, white with blue accents!!! I'll post pictures this weekend hopefully once I get home and settled in.

Did anyone get the mail I forwarded about IMS.

Now see that is what I pictured, tooling along through a rain forest on a bike would be kickbutt!

Carlos, I know it as El Junque.

That would be right. Did you stop at the road side kettles for some Bacalaitos. The trip is just not complete without that. Plus going down to Luquillo to the beach while you are on that side of the island. The pictures above are from two years ago when I took my daughter down for family reunion.

Jim,
I got the Email you forwarded. I had also received it at both my personal Email addresses. I'm torn between Washington DC and Greenville, SC. This year Greenville is before Washington DC. Looking at the dates, if there is any mid-year announcement/release (personally I don't think it's very likely, but who knows? <=== Not I!) it seems the timing of the DC show might either be the same time or just enough after to see it. Either way it will be cold, so I wouldn't count on any demo rides in Greenville this year. But what do I know, this is all speculation. In any event, I'm always up for going to the show, just need to decide which one.

Carlos,
Hook, line and sinker! However, it's all in good fun.

Just talked to him a few minutes ago. He's packing up and ready to head home in a few. Jim, if you want some fresh romas, let me know. I should be free Thursday if the project goes well. I'll bring some pics.

No we did not stop at the road side vendors.
It was a long day and we had 3 car loads of family on the trip to EJ.

Kristi and I just rode 80+miles today. She is really progressing well. We actually got on more populated roads and she was able to maintain traffic speeds. Anyone that can ride a Blast 80+ miles and ready to ride more is a trooper. I started to worry she was going to find out about reserve because we took off with 35 miles on the tank and we were out in the middle of no where. But the Blast kept going all the way back to Grifton where we stopped for gas. With 120 miles on the tank the bike took only 1.6 gallons, not bad.

1.6? Gas sipper. Around town I get to around 110 before the fuel light comes on my 12Ss. If I was not so hard on take off I'd get better.

sorry To slip off Jim you were sawing logs after the "enima nurse" brought that 80wt gunge for you to drink, I think that you were hammered from that [ in a bad way ]
I said good night right after they shot the tank, Adam shoulda used C4 a piece of the tank popped off and it made some noise, Glad you are home now, staying shut up in that place (it was ok for a hospital ) would have had me climbing the walls

My apologies OldDog, I opened my eyes and you were gone. However you made a impression on the nurse!!!
Did you get a #? Saturday I tried making an inroad with the Gal I told you about,

Major disappointment

Shoot finish getin well so we can go ride

some reasons why I like my bike better than women

1. If I ride an other bike its ok
2. If its leaking some thing its broke.
3. It never gets a headache
4. It goes good with beer.
5. Its nekkid all the time
6. If I take a wrench to it the sherrif wont visit
7. If I have Gas thats ok It has Gas too.
8. It does not complain about my shape
( yes I am in shape ROUND )
9. I dont have to take it shopping
10. When I push its buttons it does what I want unless its broke.. (see # 6 )}

ANY HOW GLAD THAT YOU ARE OUT AND HOME !

Looks like I'll have a 12,500 watt generator, big tent, ez-up, fans, chairs, cooler ... and stuff at VIR this weekend since I'm bringing the truck and trailer. I'll be making an offsite run with the trailer Sunday morning but should be back by race time ... with " an addition".
