Well, I'm alive and well and living in the PHL (Philadelphia) airport.

Micah was correct - I was on vacation in North Carolina, laying on the beach, drinking way to many adult beverages, and feeling out of touch due to no internet connection!

I'm back now, but several changes have happened while I was gone.

I've been asked to "move" to PHL (and BWI; Baltimore-Washington airport) for the next several months to work on some staffing and leadership issues. I'll be home on weekends, but will likely attend only some of our upcoming scheduled rides. I'll continue to lead the chapter and put out communication.

Call me for more details at 214-455-8923. Thanks, and I'll see you soon.

Check in if you're interested in our scheduled "long" ride this coming Sunday. Our options are open, and include the previously scheduled ride toward Austin (coincidentally, I'm IN Austin at this very moment awaiting my flight to Baltimore), but we're not limited to that ride - where do you want to go?

I'm putting new tires on the Lightning on Saturday, so I'll be ready for the trip.

Who's in?

Well, it looks as if Kevin’s weather man was on the ball – the weather will not only last all day, but the bulk of it is exactly where we were planning to ride! Dang it!

So, here’s the plan…the “official” ride is OFF.

BUT – if it looks to be clearing AT ALL, I’d still like to ride, but if I do I’ll be going SE of the DFW Metroplex. There are actually some great roads toward Tyler, and the rain CURRENTLY does not look to be going that way.

Since we canceled today’s ride altogether, we’ll see about next weekend as a “makeup” day – I’ll have to check my calendar, but I’d still like to ride wid youze guyz! Stay in touch by email and phone (my mobile in 214-455-8923) and we’ll figure this out.

Chris

BUT - we are going to "make it up" on BOTH Saturday AND Sunday!!!

That's right, I have a "kitchen pass" for the entire weekend, and I'm itching to ride...wherever!

Lemme know who's in!!!

I was in the real twisties all day long on Sunday. And I didn't see any of you. : )

This was the second time I did the long track. I'm beginning to like it more.

Here's another track opening up just north-west of here in Slidel: http://www.eaglescanyon.com/index.htm

I think I've died and gone to heaven. There are now 3 tracks within 65 miles of my house, and three others within a 4 hour drive. I love Texas.

Talk about casting bait. LOL!

Okay, I'll take it. : )

First off, it's just a track day, not a race.

That said, I don't think that the late Kirk McCarthy, former WSBK racer would share your view since he was beaten by a Buell at Laguna Seca and only managed to just win the AMA Thunderbike championship by a mere single point over Mike Cicotto back in 2003.

I'd put a Buell up against an air-cooled Duc anytime.

XBRR rider Rico Penzkofer whooped up on a full blown 999R Superbike at Daytona this Spring in a CCS Supertwins race.

XBRR rider Michel Amalric recently whooped up on a gaggle of Ducati 999's and Aprilia Mille's including the "R" versions at the sprint race during France's Bol d'Or at the venerable Magny Cours circuit.

And, if you are brave enough, I know a certain Buell Cyclone that would enjoy the chance to whoop up on a certain R6 at Oak Hill Raceway. Next race day is in February. : )

I have respect for the XBRR as a choice for a privateer racer (provided they last). But there won't be any there at MSR for a long time, if ever.

So don't go pulling scenarios like Zeus could kick Superman's ass in a fight with me, Blake. It's bait I won't take.

And don't forget: I own an XB. A very nice one at that. I even love it enough to wreck it, blow it up on a track, meticulously repair it, and then keep it for what it is...A STREET BIKE.

I'm just not so much of a fanatik (get it, I spelled it with a 'k' : ))to think my XB, with it's underslung/ZTL/mass centralized/air-cooled concoction will even come close to competing with the average duck I see at the track. Those things are monsters that can walk away from me like I'm standing still in stock form.

Beyond that, they simply don't have the same value for the money for track purposes that your disposable rice-rocket-type bikes have. Right out of the box, XB's are slower, less reliable (based on my own experiences), less supported by track-side vendors, and twitchy & unstable by comparison. Again, these are my own experiences that I gained using my money and my time at the track. Yours are no doubt different.

I frequent the track with a fellow named Dave (999R), who raced at the AMA level for several years. Ty Howard (R6, 600RR) has also been kind enough to blast past me, slow enough to let me catch up, and then try to teach me what he just did. Oh, and let's not forget our good buddy Derek (OrtegaKid with a blue XB9R and R6). He's at least as fast as the two riders I just mentioned and can school me on his 9R with me on my 6. I've therefore seen first hand exactly what "fast" means. And know I'm not it.

But am I brave enough? abso-freakin-lutely.

I like Keith very much. It would be a pleasure share a paddock spot and learn the track behind someone who knows it so well. PLEASE give me a ring upon the next opportunity to do a track day there. I know Derek and I both will show with bells on. It'll just be too bad that I won't be able to make that particular trip on the XB. THAT'S the type of things it's perfect for. : )
