--------------Is bvsignguy in Iraq?----------------------

Yes he is as far as I know. Heard maybe the middle of the month he would return. He posted not long aga as to what was going on Oct. 30th. and have not heard from him since. So who knows.

I am going to another B-day party on the cape so Saturday is out for me. Sunday is looking good time wise, not sure what kind of weather is headed for us this weekend. I'm hopping something decent.

Justin_case....I run Direct Link for a while now. Getting pretty good with it. Will you be doing anything with direct link in the future? Got a tunner at all for that dyno? Need one?

ducxl I will be making contact soon with you. probubly take a ride saturday morning as my wife is working tonight and i have the little guys with me.

Buellinblack, no Shawn L. here. Firebolteric, what are you using to get A/F ratio.

I have recently been tunning by the "Bata system". Basicly you get a route down that consists of 6 miles where you can run the bike at a consistent throttle/idle/speed.(highway). On the last 2 miles (this is the important spot) try to run at the "Set RPM" and when get off the highway I disconnect the o2 sensor.(easy for me w/ the F.A.S.T system) Bring the bike home and read the A/F ratio off of the Direct Link Software.(new software allows this). I then send my results to Al who in turn sends me which cells to change and what to change them to. I would then redo the entire sequence again. Do this until it is tunned dead on.

From what i have learned you can get it pretty good on the dyno and the Beta way allows you a more precise tunning.

Next time I call Al I will try to ask how to get the beta figured out so I dont need to send the info to him every time, I would be able to do it myself.

This way obviously takes longer than the dyno but is way more precise. Seems the dyno gets you in the ball park and this fine tunes it to a a/f of 100.

Hey Eric, you met Pete Kates at GMD Computrack? What's your impression of their set-up? I was impressed with his suspension knowledge. At last summer's Laconia races a couple winners acknowledged him as a sponsor,cool....

He is a cool guy. I hung around and talked with him for a while. He had a GSXR600 that was set up for a woman who was 4'11", which is the same size as my girlfriend. I found that pretty interesting, I didn't think that you could lower a bike that much and still have enough suspension travel. Judging by the tires on it, it had been ridden pretty good.

When the money situation improves, I will be getting my bike done properly over there.

How do they set up your suspension? Wouldn't one need to ride it hard in the twisties and then give the tuner some feed back so he could adjust it, then go do it again until it is "set up"?

I don't know how they tune a suspension, just taking a guess on how I think one would.

He basicly just added some compression dampening. Anything is better then what it was. I do need stiffer springs though before I can even begin to set it up.

This wasn't a tune by any means. This was just to get it a little closer to correct.

Should have worded that different. I was asking "how" they tune a suspension as I might be interested in having it done.

Just curious for my own knowledge

http://www.computrackboston.com/suspension.htm

"Fork revalving involves complete disassembly of the entire front fork. All parts are put through a three-step cleaning process involving two wash tanks, a final rinse with brake cleaner and blown dry with compressed air. The compressor and rebound circuits are disassembled and inspected. Pistons and valve specifications are then selected based on rider weight, type of riding and model of fork. Spring rates are also selected based on the same criteria. All parts are then given a final inspection and damping cartridges are then re-assembled. The remaining fork parts, sliders, bushings, tubes, etc. are also inspected for wear and damage and replaced if needed.

Forks are then assembled with new seals and fresh oil. Spring pre-load and damping adjustments are set to our baseline settings. When you receive your revalved forks, they are ready to be installed. Fine tune adjustments can be made after riding.

If at any time you have questions, we can be reached by phone or e-mail. We attend all LRRS events and many track days.

Advice, adjustments and consultation are always included with every fork job.

We are confident you will be pleased with our work as delivered. If any of the spring rate or damping specifications need to be revised, for your particular application, we will do so at no charge."

Anyone ever dyno test before and after a chain conversion to see which is more efficient, belt or chain?

I would be almost positive that a chain is more "efficient". Belts tend to make alot more friction. Take a bike with a belt and another with a chain and spin them, the chain will spin quite a bit longer over the belt.

Huh,i've noticed my XB will slow down much quicker than my chain drive bike when coasting.I think you're right there Eric.Especially considering the belt is taught, where the chain is loose. The chain is heavier tho.

I may go out in the morning around 9'ish for a couple hours, hit the MA/CT/RI back roads and then come home. My son has a football game in the afternoon at 12:00.

But the bike runs so well in this weather. I love the cool weather, you just need to dress for it and ride in the sun.

I ride till the first snow fall....are we not bad weather bikers?

Up here in Maine it was 37F this morning but it will get to the 50's or 60's during the day. I love the rides though and have put about 500 miles on in the last week.

Remember to Watch out for the leaves! in the corners and curves, they can be Snot Slick, especially if there is any moisture from frost or rain.

I had a exciting moment turning of onto a secondary road the other day, the corner was heavily shaded, lot of leaves, some pine needles, and the rear tire kicked out a few inches even at a lower speed and with cautious acceleration.

I don't mind getting slapped in the face a little by the falling leaves but they can be bad news on the pavement.

Indian Summer! The black flies and tourists are gone! Let's ride!

Jack

Will be leaving in about an hour or less. I will check the board before taking off.

The weather is not to chilly out.

yes notices the leaves last weekend and I am very cautious Around them. Thanks for a heads up! New england weather is about to change for the worst......Unless you have new toys for the winter months!

My day was interesting. I headed out at about 12pm to hit the curves. I started down 96 south, and I couldn't remember where to turn. I eventually found the right road and took a couple of passes on it. On the second pass I came at the Claude corner a little hot, and missed my turn in point. I got on the breaks, and noticed that it isn't very easy breaking right there. The surface of the road seems to prefer the sides of your tires over the bottoms. I did about 4 passes on that road then figured the locals would be getting annoyed, so I started home.

I was heading back south on 146 and I noticed my tach, which was acting funny for a while, was out, and then my speedo went out. I got off onto 102 and took that to 146A. There my bike just quit. My battery was completely drained. I pushed my bike all the way till just before the corner of 126 and 114 in Woonsocket. I was too freakin tired by then.

I must have gotten passed by at least 20 guys on cruisers. What dicks! Not a single one of them stopped and asked if everything was alright. What ever, they couldn't have done anything anyway, but they were still dicks.

I am taking a rest for a bit, and then I will go back out and get my bike.

Better check the stator/regulator.First charge the battery overnight with a low amp charger.Sorry ya broke down. The electrics probably started going wacky because of low voltage.Multi-meter needed.

Could you give me a hand with that? I'll hook it up to the charger, but if you have time tomorrow, I could use some help doing the stator/regulator checks. I have the multimeter, I just like to have an experienced hand when it comes to electrical stuff.

I'd like to but i work 10.5 hours tomorrow and.....travelling to Blackstone will be a lot for me....tomorrow.I'll refresh myself with my service manual and location of the stator lead, which, will be at the front of the primary cover i believe. Then the test consists of checking for a shorted stator to ground. If that's ok,then output voltage of 18 volts/1k rpm at the stator plug is next.If that's ok then the regulator gets tested with the bike running the battery should measure like 13.5 volts.I'll try.

Eboos,

You know about Reep's electrical trouble shooting guide in the KV right?

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/54010.html?1107789974

That has all the values in it for the different checks.

Good luck with that, maybe it will turn out to be something simple. And cheap.
