John, setup the RSS -- click the nail. Hit the 'Back' button;
it's in good company and also setup off of the RSS History page.

Thanks, Steve

John, I'd have to do the latter, but the ding is also (as was pointed out today) just into the first curve and would require part of the curve as well. How much do you think it might cost? The coatig is $135. I might just get it done as-is and later on buy a nice header and get it done.

Keith...You're right in that we'll probably head as far south as we can get on the "good" roads...But I'll leave that decision up to the group as to where they might want to go...

Steve...I think you guys are making good investment decisions as well as acquiring beautiful scooters...Take good care of it and thanks for the photo...

First ride on an XB9 this evening...Of the "S" configuration and here's my thoughts...Small, tiny, diminutive, little, even...You sit on it and not in it like Kev's 900SS or even our S3T's...It really doesn't have a front wheel...At least not one that I could see...It's like driving the first of the car designs with the rounded front end...You can't tell where the front of the vehicle is...And you get over it...

The tranny is spectacular...Can't believe it's made in WI...It's THAT good!...It just snicks from gear to gear and the stops that let you know you're in first and fifth are great...No more looking for that sixth gear...

Everything I've heard and read about the engine is true...It is smooth and revs easily but it also leaves you wanting more (and I hear from a little birdy there will be more)...You just have to ride it more like a SS and keep it on the boil...Our tubies have made me lazy...You can't just leave it in fourth and roll off and on...

The chassis and suspension are REALLY different from anything I've ever ridden...You have to caress the controls...Just shifting with too much force and when you hit the end of the shift you feel the input to the chassis...Same with the bars...Just lay your hands on her, uh, them and the smallest of inputs are immediately put to the ground...I did a bit of breaking in a few turns and didn't think the bike stood up any more than others...But, then, I was not really leaned over like on a track...Oh, and it begs to be taken to a track...You can almost hear it asking...Please, pretty please to Gateway, dad...The roads I rode were somewhat twisty but not like P or DD or their brothers...I think it would be really serious fun in NC...Just trailer it there...It could never be my daily ride but a fun second or third it could be...

But, what it really left me with is hope...Hope for the future...The fit and finish, the tranny, engine, chassis and suspension (stock even) are worlds apart from what went before...It just needs to be "supersized"...Best corollary I could think of is the new Victory "Vegas" compared to the Victory's of a few years ago...What a difference in quality!...They've definitely turned a big corner in West Troy...

And, yes, I'm still scratching my head over "M" and "S"...Josh, he'll let us know when he's good and ready...

See Ya!

Bob

Bob,
I kind of figured that. When you guys come up with a route and/or starting point please post it here. Then I will be able to decide if I am going to be able to make a day of it or ride with the "flatlanders". I have to check with the "little boss" and see what we have going on since the following weekend I am planning on doing the Battletrax in Waterloo.
Speaking of Waterloo, I am assuming that you guys are going to be traveling right through my area enroute to Waterloo. Let me know what you guys think and what route you are taking so that we can meet up on the road.

Glad you added the...Helmets...Thought for a minute you'd been peeking...

John almost has "The Beast" back together...He will be finished tomorrow...He has to get the "donuts" for the manifolds tomorrow morning and then he'll be done...

Anyone for a ride Sunday?

See Ya!

Well, my riding is temporarily on hold. Front isolator broke.

Dave, I think you jinxed my last summer when you asked if I had any problems with it yet! :)

any suggestions? the mounting bolt broke off in the block. I think I can easy out it. and replace the mount pretty easily, any suggestion or things to look for or watch out for would be greatly apprecitated.

Thanks
Keith

Wait, front isolator? Up under the steering neck?
If so forget what I said about an upgrade I don't know if they changed that one.

Dave,
the belt side broke in two, and the otherside the bolt sheered off in the mount. part should be here tuesday and hopefully i'll have it back in the same day if all goes well. Josh gave me a few suggestions and Daves in waterloo gave me a couple more. I have pics just have to get them downloaded from camera. no real damage. think I was lucky enough to catch it when I did. rode it lastnight and went to get on this morning and noticed that the tank cover and air box were pulled a bit apart. thought maybe on of the brackets that hold the airbox came loose. took the airbox off an noticed that the intake gasket was out of wack. took the back of the airbox off and noticed the broken isolator. the only thing I am really worried about is getting the bolt that sheered out cleanly.
Keith

p.s. I'm still claiming Dave jinxed me on this! LOL :)

Hey Keith, the operative word in DAve's question was "yet"...Applies to everything on two wheels and things that float...John's a specialist with an easyout...Hope you're able to extract that bolt shank...As least it happened close to home...John should have his bike together by now so that's why we're not hearing from him and I have to pick up Pumpkin before 1600...

See Ya!

Bob,
That was the second thought I had this morning. It came right after "that damn Dave jinxed me!" LOL :) I am actually happy it happened now. If it had happened next week or the following when I am going to be a minimum of two hours from home this could have been a major hassle. now if things go as planned it shouldn;t affect either trip.
Glad te hear that John got everything back together!

Well, we have our first track day of the year behind us now. What a great time. I was a little concerned if I'd be able to run as fast as last year. I had been riding a X1 and was very comfortable on it. I have switched to a XB9R Firebolt and figured I'd have to learn to ride all over again. I would've been thrilled to be able to run the same or close lap times on the Bolt for my first time out on it. Well last year my best lap time was a 1 minute 50.19 second lap. I was able to run a 1 minute 46.9 second with the Firebolt. My goal for the year was to take 5 seconds off my times, now that doesn't seem "lofty" enough so my new goal is to get into the 1.43s
My boss Doug is doing well also, he beat me twice during the day. Damm turn 7.
Craig did the race school so we didn't see him much all day.
I had my first "swap some paint" with another rider. Turned out I know the guy. It was Rob, he owns Lithium Motorsports and races CRA. We hit together pretty hard but it wasn't that big of a deal. One less thing to be scared of now!
I got to meet a bunch of the KC Mob guys that I hadn't met before.
Sam and Frank were in the novice group so I didn't get to ride with them. They had a ball too and I'm sure will be back for more.
In all there were 55 riders there.
If you haven't done a track day yet, DO IT!

Third Sunday is also Bunny Day

Shirl reminded me yesterday that our Third Sunday Ride kinda
conflicts with a small thing called Easter...Most important holiday
on the Feinberg's calendar, don't you know?...The LaMear's always
sacrafice a chocolate rabbit...In light of this I would think it
appropriate to cancel the organized ride...However, as always if you
plan on riding either day this coming weekend please post it here and
you may get others to join you...

See Ya!

Front isolator update.

My biggest concern is out of the way. The bolt extracted cleanly. Set a floor jack up under the shock mount and it raises the motor right back into place. Bike is ready for the new part to go in. Part is supposed to be in tommorrow and hopefully everything goes back together as easily as it has come apart!

Keith

p.s. Dave, If all goes well tommorrow, I'll let you off the hook for jinxing me!! :)

count me out for this Friday. The part came in a was the wrong one. Not anybody's fault. Service manual calls the front isolator the actual metal bracket while it appears the part book calls the isolator the rubber boot it hangs from. thought it sounded wierd but assumed the manual was right. oh well. I need to check the rubber boot anyway, it may have gone bad and caused stress on the metal bracket. Hopefully it gets here in time to get it back together for waterloo.

Let's get a list going for Friday...If you're planning on riding please copy this post to a new post and add your name...In order to get a "full" day in why don't we plan on leaving from the Eureka QT (Neil, I-44 and 109 / W) at 0900...John, we'll meet you at Wagner's if that's okay with you or come on over to the QT if you want to kick tires a bit beforehand?...If nobody has any other suggestions I was thinking of heading down to Bixby, KK, 72, 21, 49, 32 and then we can stop again at Bixby for ice cream and decide what to do from there...Or maybe we could pick up C and head east a bit...So who is in???...

Neil (he emailed me)
John (he needs the confidence miles)
Bob (he's trying to stay upright)
Jenn & Paul (be good to see them and they started all this)
