Of course I'll help out at the demo, just let me know what I'll have to do. On another note, is anyone going to First Thursday? I was planning on stopping by between work and work.

Lou,
So far, it sounds as if it may be a decent evening.
I'm planning on going.

I've been a Duluth HOG chapter member for years but I'm new to the BRAG thing. I plan on riding my new Uly down to Welch Village on the 29th. I hope to bring some other Buellers down from Duluth. I'm lovin' this bike. 1900 miles on since the I bought it in the end of February. I'm waiting on the Special Ops pipe I ordered. I'm glad I stumbled on to Storm fronts.

I'm planning on going Saturday, hopefully the weather holds out and stays dry.

As promised long ago at the Daytona races, here's the deal for track schools this year.
Riding Course at Dakota County
and
The only real track days in MN this year

I'm planning on doing the July 17th at BIR "School of Speed" provided I can secure a trailer (pretty sure I've got one) but I haven't officially registered yet. That's a Monday so not super convenient but I'll take what I can get I guess.

For the DCTC school, as expected it filled up fast this year again! Current dates for returning riders like me are slim pickins. For first timers there are some spots in July/Aug/Sept still available. Let me know if you plan to be there any of the days. I just got a new camera that I'd like to test out on motorsports, like you guys draggin your knee!

Dear ColdWeather Buellers.

I am respectfully writing to the authorities of shivering rides, how have you successfully equipped/modified your Buells to compensate for the added electrical loads of heated clothing.
I have a '98 S3T, and desired to use the Gerbing gloves, socks, liner jacket and pant assembly which can have a max amperage draw of 18 amps. OE charging system is rated a 19 -23 amps. Any or all feedback will be greatly appreciated.

You don't need everything electrified.

Just get a good quality vest and wear the smallest one that will fit you for good heat transmission - either under everything right against the skin, or just over a light t-shirt. Then, wear layers over that and buy yourself a good pair of insulated gloves.

The vest will keep the core of your body warm, and then warm blood moving from your core to your extremities will keep your feet and hands warm. Don't forget the long-johns! You really don't need heated gloves and socks if the vest is doing its job. It must fit tightly as close to the skin as possible....

If you just use the vest, you shouldn't need to modify the bike for extra power output. It might draw heavy at idle, but the battery will make up for it, and at highway speed you should have plenty of power.

Good Luck - Nick

They make heated clothes? Huh. What I need are heated tires that melt through the ice. I wouldn't have missed December, then.

Nick, Thank you for the information. Perhaps the entire "suit" is over kill. I am planning on more longer distance rides, IE IronButt level adventures and thought the hours of cold weather riding would demand more thermal production.

Keith, I only use Gerbing gloves which allows riding below freezing for hours if I really want to (and sometimes I do). The jacket liner is next on my list but I've been saying that for years so I don't have first hand knowledge of current draw for lots of gear on a Buell. I do know some guys who ride the Iron Butt every other year and I'm pretty sure they just do heated gloves and vest/liner...but then tons of electronics like GPS/radar/iPod. As far as I've heard no modifications were needed to the electrics but that's on Honda or BMW. Are you planning an Iron Butt attempt on a Buell???

Regarding tomorrow's demo in Welch, if it's dry I'll head down there....if it's wet then maybe.

I've been using the Gerbing gloves and Aerostitch electric liner on my M2L with no electrical depletion problems.

Woke up this AM with an incredibly stiff neck, it hurt to pull on my helmet!
I'm sitting out today also, it's 45, raining and I can't turn my head to the left.
This sucks.

Too bad, despite the rain it was actually pretty cool! Not too busy, no test rides but plenty of time to talk with Erik.

We had a sidecarist get together at Betty's Bikes & Buns in Minneapolis. While the Buell test fleet cowered indoors, we had 5 sidehacks turn out, 2 of whom rode over 200 miles in he rain to get there. I and another rider then rode over to Sheldon Aubut's place by Stillwater to meet some more sidecarists and help Sheldon get his 2 AMC Eagle SX4s running. Had a great ride home, only 30 miles in 45 degree rain.

When them Buell guys gonna get a sidecar so they can join us 'hackers in all this fun?

Do I need a sidecar to ride in the rain? I didn't today, and there were way more than 5 bikers down in Welch testing out their raingear. Of course Lou needed a chase vehicle so maybe that counts as his sidecar!

I heard BB&B cowered away from the chance to serve coffee at the Buell event, guess they had to be around in case the 6th sidecar showed up.

Hey Tim, good to meet you. I hope you like the new ULY and didn't get the new Buell leathers too wet on the ride home. Look us up for a BRAG ride in the future.

Coldwthrrider, you're letting the sidecarist"s secret out! That 3rd wheel gives a big boost in stability in slippery conditions, naking it possible to ride on snow even.

As for Betty's, they were quite busy and I suspect Welch Village isn't about to allow competion for their own food and drink sales,

Rain or shine, I'll be out riding today- I need to run some errands and the 4 wheelers are buried in the back of my garage.

We tried getting Bettys to serve coffee, the owners of Welch wanted them there but Betty's never got back to us.
Buellgrrl, if you know of anyone that is looking for a sidecar let me know. I have a 74 Hitchhiker (off a Guzzi) that I need to part with. Its just like Marty M's.

Eric, my chase vehicle is mostly there to help me get lost. I don't know if Julie contributes to my stability or not, though. Soon she'll be riding her own bike, but she tells me that she's gonna be a fair weather rider. Give me time, I'll have her out in all sorts of weather, eventually.
