Long time since I've really had time to sit down and do a little surfing. 1st, I want to thank everyone who helped with the move. I'm really in your debt. Friends like you are very rare and I feel very lucky to be able to call each of you "friend". Things here are beginning to settle down, and in. The house is a lot nicer than I had expected, it's really a pretty cool little place. It needs some work, and it seems that the landlord is in agreement, so some major work is going to start happening to it soon. While the major roads around here go straight forever, it seams that all of the secondary roads are nice little cork screws. Just across from my drive is a road called Blue River Rd (BTW: The house sits along side the Blue River) and it's tight! The north end of it is a series of hard nineties and nice elevation changes. Had Pauletta pushing against the roof of the Neon today only going 25 mph through a lot of it-so on the bike it will be a hoot! It also seems that every connecting road is the same way! Soooo.......if anyone wants to venture this way, we have a guest suite with it's own living area and secure bike storage! 1313, dig "The King" I have it as my wall paper. I too am looking forward to "Cars". I've always enjoyed Pixar's work, and now that they've made a movie about cars, and the all-knowing, wise, and all time bad @ss is a Mopar, I got to to go! Carlos, glad to hear you had a good trip back, thanks for calling buddy! Well, got to go for now, tomorrow I start the job and 6 AM is still early........ Dave - Sorry about that. It rained cats and dogs on the way to Cincinnati. By the time I got there, I went straight into the garage to take off my wet gear. Everyone followed me in the garage and we talked about the Uly for an hour before we went inside. I totally forgot to call anyone after that until 1am when I woke up Kristi at home. I liked your new place. Places like that have character that cookie cutter row houses just do not have, plus a lot of room for the dogs. I wish I had more time but it was an action packed weekend. I got to mom's about 9:30pm. We stayed up until 3am. In all I rode 800+ miles on the bike, 700+ on Sunday, a new personal best. The scary thing was that after 14 hours and that many miles, I could have kept on going. The Uly is so comfortable that the gas tank just may be too small. 180-200 miles straight is no problem. Trying to make time after playing in the mountains too long, I just did not want to pull off to get gas after 187 miles. I got too close to running out of gas with just .18 gal left in the tank. RD - 1313 and I rode US58 the weekend we stayed at my in-laws place in Gladsboro VA. Their place is between US-58 and the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is awesome. I believe he posted the adventure in the Tale Section. U4euh - I think I need to pay for the service to be able to e-mail the pictures. Every time I have tried to e-mail a picture it would not send it. It really sucked that I did not have the camera to take pictures. The views were just unreal. Kristi - I'd like 2 C3jr decals   Spike Posted on Thursday, May 04, 2006 - 11:00 am:        So I finally finished cutting up my airbox last night, this morning was the first official test ride. I had intended to take pictures, but I like riding better than I like taking pictures. Besides, we all know what an XB airbox lid looks like, just picture it with holes cut in it. I did get a chance to ride a short distance with a few holes cut in the lid yesterday, but didn't really wring it out. Also, I was riding with the cosmetic airbox cover off and no tank bag (duh), so my only thought was that it was loud. Stupid loud. Maybe not so loud to everyone else, but since I'm leaning right over the airbox it created an odd resonance in my helmet that made me wish I had worn my ear plugs. This morning I had the cosmetic cover and the tank bag back on, it didn't seem as loud. It's still louder than stock and has more of an intake honk, but not bothersome loud. I ended up getting on 40 East from Gorman street. The on ramp is a 90 degree right turn followed by a gradual transition left that leads onto 40. I took the right in 1st, kinda quick but not pushing hard, then grabbed 2nd as I was picking the bike back up, front wheel came up, hard on the gas . . . front wheel still coming up, had to roll off to get the front end back down to finish the transition to the left, then powered through 2nd and partway into 3rd, then had to shut down to avoid "arrest-me" speeds while merging onto 40. I'm used to the front end coming up when I snatch 2nd hard. If I hesitate letting the clutch out I can even get it up to the balance point on a 1-2 shift. However, I didn't bang 2nd that hard this time. It might have been since I was still partly on the side of the tire, or maybe it was from the cold air this morning, but the bike at least feels like it has more power now.   Ulywife Posted on Thursday, May 04, 2006 - 09:35 pm:        JimN - no problem. In fact, I had to order more C3 jr. decals today. The first 6 are now all spoken for. Carlos will have them with him on the C3 Jr. Ride unless you want me to mail them to you on Monday. I've had people try and figure out what C3 means. It's kinda funny. One Mom came up to me today at school and said, "please tell me what your magnet means before my children drive me crazy". Think I also remember it for sale at Ray's a while ago. My son and his black Blast and I were out riding this morning, came home to watch the Canes play and now getting ready to ride somewhere for diner. Hope ya all got out some on such a pretty day. From then, until I went to college in 1985, I strung the yard full of antennas. The most interesting of which was a 2M vertical I mounted in the top of a pine tree. It was a tall tree and it didn't have any low branches. So I got a 30' extension ladder to get up the side of the tree. That still didn't get me to the branches though, so I nailed sections of 2x4s up the side of the tree so I could reach the first branch. Then I climbed all the way to the top, haulled up the antenna, and hose clamped it to the tree. I rode by the house today. Everything has changed. Mom sold the place after my dad died, and my neighbors have all moved away. But my antenna is still in the tree, 22 years later!   Zxzer04 Posted on Saturday, May 06, 2006 - 07:20 pm:        Ok, sounds like you guys are doing well. I just got back from the Hurricanes game where the Canes stomped the devils back to haydee's. We have been lucky enough to receive tickets from the players twice now as gifts and I took my daughter and she loved it. Go Canes. I also saw another Buell not mentioned so far, in Apex today and I also saw probably the same bike with Spike last Saturday. As it was a bright red 12R then I know it wasn't Spike or Mike from Ray Price as that was our destination and he and his bike was on location(and he never washes his). So there is another red bolt out there. As for me I got my tires on last night, and with Spike's help we adjusted the Primary and clutch the other night. I hope to see you guys sometime soon. Larry   1313 Posted on Saturday, May 06, 2006 - 11:10 pm:        Alrighty then. I believe that I posted a couple of weeks ago that I put the 28 tooth front sprocket kit on my V-Rod. I had the kit sitting in my living room for nearly a year and a half before I got the gumption to put it on (because I thought the needed speedo recalibration would run $150 - the standard download price). Imagine my surprise when Lee at Shelton's in Goldsboro said that the speedo recalibration was free. I can't describe the feeling of going into a Harley dealer and getting a service and not having to pay a cent. Well on the ride home in the rain it wasn't very noticeable, but it didn't run right ever since the speedo was recalibrated. Chopper Steve at V-Mod thought the symptoms I relayed to him meant that the speedo recalibration made the ECM go back to the stock fuel mapping. I called Lee earlier this week to see if that is what happened or if that is what should have happened. After Lee contacted the mothership he informed me that I would need to get the download for the Screamin' Eagle mufflers and air cleaner (which I had purchased when I bought the bike in March of 2003). So, it was indeed going to cost me $150 for the ECM remapping in order for the bike to run right again. When I went in today, Lee was nice enough to let me buy the part from the Parts Dept. and he downloaded the fuel mapping for free. When he pulled up the info to find the part number I had noticed that the same part number for the download was used with and without the airbox lid. No I go back even further to when our Defector Director Dave was working in Parts at Jackass & Excrement in Greenville as I had purchased the IAT sensor relocation kit needed to run without the airbox lid. So guess what I did when I got back tonight? That's right, IAT sensor relocation time. Since I forgot to take a beginning picture, here's a mock up without the clips to secure the lid showing roughly what the airbox cover looks like in place. And here's what it looks like now without the lid. And here's the IAT sensor's new home. Of course after the ECM was remapped today it ran a hell of a lot better than before - no stumbling, no popping, just smooth on demand power. After relocating the IAT sensor and removing the airbox lid I had to take it for a shakedown run tonight. Talk about intake honk! Above 4,000 or so with heavy throttle application (more than half) it reminds me of the classic 70's movie Deep Throat. Below that it pretty much sounds normal. But the power delivery is amazing now. I really think it will scare the crap out of me again. I didn't get on it 100% tonight because it was dark and ya can't tell which cars are police at night, but I can't wait until Monday morning on the way to work when I get on my own private dragstrip and see just how much of an improvement it is. This kind of reminded me of the first Harley I bought - back when I was working at Buell. A 1999 Dyna Wide Glide. I ordered it with the Screamin Eagle air cleaner kit and the (original) Screamin Eagle mufflers, but they didn't have the air cleaner kit in stock so I had them re-jet the carb for both the mufflers and the air cleaner kit and told them I would get the air cleaner kit form another dealer that had it in stock and put it on myself. The mufflers alone were an improvement over stock, but once I put the air cleaner kit on - Boy did that ever wake up the Wide Glide! Same 'lesson' today only with a much different animal and an even more noticeable difference. I always new the 'hot setup' for a V-Rod was the K&N air filter, better mufflers and running 'lidless', but if someone would've told me exactly what kind of difference it makes I would've done it a hell of a lot sooner. With the 28 tooth front sprocket kit on top of it the powerband is shifted to a much more user friendly area. Now it is not absolutely necessary to drop down a gear or two in order to make an evasive manuver. It is still nice to do, but not absolutely necessary. I went west to Dodge City and east to Eureaka on the weekend I didn't see much. Two weeks at home between trips and I was able to get 500 miles on the Uly and ride in the Cape Fear 1000 so not complaining but the social life is taking a hit. Been doing my best to break it in according to the manual. Found the bike on Adventure Rider. Guy had a bum knee and bike was too tall for him. Hated the sale because I could tell he really didn't want to part with it. Buell owner for many years and ordered a Ulysses when they first came out but then wasn't able to make it fit. He was hoping to be able to lower it with the low seat and suspension. Never got comfortable with the bike.
