Oh Joooohn!...Ron has a 2000 ST4 that he just purchased (not a trade in) in the shop...We started it and Bruce thought it sounded very broken until we explained the dry clutch thingy...I, of course, had to sit it and now I know exactly why I leave my check book at the orifice all the time...Kevin is now hot gripped on all his rides and the FL now has a radio and CD player...

Kevyn, hope to see you Sunday...

I'm going to try to ride tomorrow if the roads are OK...Main roads only...

See Ya!

Metzeler Z4 tire followup...
I called the place I got them from. They had a bit of a hard time believing the tire was 5 yrs old but a picture put all that aside very quickly. The one fella I was talking to said they got a mess of calls one time because a regional Gold Wing paper ran a story on tire dates and goofed it. He also mentioned he has some customers that want racing tires no more than 6 months old. He was extremely amazed that a tire sat in the system for 5 yrs.

He had me send the tire in question back to him and they're sending me a new tire. They're covering all shipping fees and apologized for the inconvenience. Genuine customer service with great prices. (Apparently no catch)

BOb...if I understood him correctly, the guy I spoke with said Drag Specialties folded but they were actually a retail subsidiary of Parts Unlimited. He said Parts Unlimited is the only (or was it largest) US importer of Metzelers.

DAve,
Most excellent. Great customer service. Maybe I will try them for my next set of tires. I need to find a cheap bead breaker for these wide tires. I have on occasion placed the wheel and tire assy. in my vise and squeezed them until the bead broke. Its kinda awkward and I run the risk of scratching the rim. After breaking the bead, the rest is easy. Except ofcourse I can not balance them. At the speeds we travel, they may not need balancing anyway. I think I might make a bead breaker out of a couple of large c-clamps and a couple of moon shaped pieces of strap steel.
Later,
John

JOhn,
This site has some home made wheel changing equipment. It looks like it's simple and works. http://www.clarity.net/~adam/tire-changing-doc.html

For those followinf the 1:18 scale VR1000 discussion a little while back, Frieze Fairview Heights Boutique has 3 more (I bought another today) marked down from $75 to $25. If KevinL makes lunch tomorrow he said he'd take this one from me. If not it's up to whoever. $26.90 w/tax.

Sam,
5000 stall? Hmmmm. Most of the used ones would probably need to be rebuilt. Your in the race only range. 8-9" I would think. I dont know of any offhand, but I will ask around. What are you working on anyway? When I got into that range of converter, I usaually had it built for the specific application. Would need to know the weight of the car, torque output of engine, etc. I do have a 400 Turbo that was built for a drag car I would like to sell. It is new, been sitting on the shelf in my garage for a while. I was exporting them to a fellow in England and had this one left over when I got out of the business. It has the normal shift pattern, not reversed.

V2win,
I've got a pro-street '67 elcamino that I have been building whenever I am not riding....Going on three years now. Took it to the track this summer and was really disappointed leaving the tree. my cam comes in at about 4200RPM and the converter I put in it gives at about 3200.... so she just bogs...builds...builds...then goes like a striped ass ape. Alot of people recommended changing gearing but that didn't make a difference in getting the motor into it's powerband at launch(not right after). It's winter now and I am just thinking about a few things while drinking beer in the garage. Anytime I look away from the bikes the car is sitting there looking orphaned. I almost feel soory for it.....so I turn my attention back to the bikes.....
