If I lived closer, and you guys need some officers that are more hands on.

I am looking hard at Daytona, biggest sticking point is something Spike brought up. "Gear". The only bags I have are a backpack. Thats not a lot of gear for a weekend 600 miles from home. Plus no room for T-shirts or other bought items. Larry

Hmm, how to mount cheap hardbags to a XB?

I am sure it is doable without messing up the lies and doing any perminent damage to the astetics, hell i made mine and they are removeable....there are tons of cheap decent hardbags on the bay, just got to figure out a mounting system....

Larry, $159.00 gets you the Buell detachable saddlebags. They're enough for a weekend if you don't go crazy and leave no evidence behind when they're not on.

In my current role as treasuer/dealer liason, I'd have to say anyone anywhere who wants to help with this chapter is more than welcome bring it on. If need be, there's always been the offer to hold meetings at the Smithfield store or in Smithfield off site. Heck, who says meetings have to happen as separate events, could be rolled into rides or even held on-line if that's what works.

Was out riding early this morning. Stopped for coffee just before it started to rain. Got wet but the bike felt and sounded really sweet. I have a Nelson-Rigg mini tank bag that I cut the front strap and used the front tank screws to secure them with. It fits the top of the tank really well without looking way oversize. Also use a Tourmaster-Cortech Sport Tail Bag. Both look good with the bike. They have saddlebags that match the tail pack I was going to get for my summer trips. Check out their webs. I'll try to get some pictures.

Gramps,
Homecoming (as listed in Fuell) is June 2-4. I've never taken a ferry across Lake Michigan, always drove around/through Chicago to get to Michigan. Checking out the internet it appears as though the Milwaukee Clipper service ended in 2004.
http://www.milwaukeeclipper.com/
There are, however, some other options:
http://www.ssbadger.com/
http://www.lake-express.com/ (same destinations as Milwaukee Clipper)
This should help you figure out which would be the best option for you:
http://www.milwaukee-muskegon.com/

Well, the V-Rod passed inspection (even with the rear brake switch inop, and the rear tire very close to needing to be replaced - according to the NC inspection requirements). However the Buell, once again, did not. It's rear tire was too far gone (for the letter of the law) to be granted an inspection sticker. Yes, I was planning on burning that tire up on the trip to Daytona and back. Hell, it only has just over 3,000 miles on it. My last one lasted 6,500 miles. But even the 6,500 miles is low mileage for a tire on a S2. Back home I would get 7,000-8,000 on a D205. Good thing I just sent in my taxes today. Hopefully the refund checks will come with enough time to get the tire, get it installed and get the damn inspection sticker in time for Daytona. Transmission? Hmmm... Good question. Time will tell. Replacing the transmission isn't a legal requirement like the inspection sticker is. Now tell me that's not up! I was also surprised how few miles I put on the bikes over the last year. Since my 2005 inspections were done in early February and it is late January now it may not truly represent my actual annual mileage. The V-Rod was at 19,828 last year and was at 26,013 today. The Buell was at 94,269 last year and was at 105,907 today. Doing some higher level math that comes up to 6,185 on the V-Rod and 11,638 on the Buell or a total of 17,823 between the two of them for the last year. That's kind of weird (I think) as in the 7 months I had to ride out of the year in Wisconsin I would usually put on around 10,000 on the S2 and about the same on the Harley's I had over the years.

A Harley with five digit mileage, now that's unusual, I thought.
If you say so. Maybe for this area yes. My buddy who was working the IMS Show in DC last weekend had a 1985 FL-something or 'nother when he started working at Buell that he bought new. I think it was in 2000 or so that he hit the 100,000 mile mark on it. He traded the FL-whatever with over 100,000K on it for a 1985 Corvette and now has a 2002 FL-newer-something or 'nother. Don't get me wrong, there are poser's up North too - like the time I was in a bar after having put on over 150 miles that day on one of my Wide Glides and this guy came over bragging about how he put on over 150 miles on his Softail the previous year.

PS. I hate Rain.
Hmmm... Sounds like you've been hanging with Dave... Seriously, I'll agree that rain is not all that enjoyable, but my last experience on a trip in the rain was a very good experience as the only other biker's you meet are real rider's. I was coming home from Homecoming and finally hit rain off and on in West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. As I stopped for gas outside of the Burlington area I noticed a H-D bagger also at the pumps. As I relaxed with some caffeine and sugar after filling the S2 up the bagger owner and I got to talking. It seems that he was on his way up to Laconia to work for the dealership he works at in Florida and his brother/brother in law or cousin did an Iron Butt run last year. He said that it was raining as heavy or heavier for more than 50% of the run and it was the best experience he's ever had.

I am looking hard at Daytona
My guess is that come Monday, EVERYONE will be looking much harder at Daytona! I think I will have to be a bad boy on Monday and get on www.buell.com during lunch at work...

Ok riding in the rain is not the end of the world and believe me I have been wet plenty of times. But I do have other considerations that you don't. First and Foremost I have a Boss Lady here at home and I have to explain to her how I am going out riding. Then I don't have very good wet weather gear so rain and riding equal very cold for me this time of year. During the summer I ride as long as I know I wont be wet when I get to work as my boss would not like that, but the ride home just have a towel waiting. Riding in the rain isn't all that much fun especially since dangerous 4wheelers just go right into dumber than dirt mode when it rains. And Finally and most importantly behind (well maybe 2nd to the Boss Lady) is I have this brand new Chevy 4x4 that I paid lots of money for and it has heat and built in rain protection...And if I don't use it my wife will kick my err..backside.

As for Daytona I will be going to Orlando on the 1st thru the 7th of March for my daughters wish with the Make A Wish Foundation. And Money will be tight after that, all though I am really wanting to go. Spike took care of one problem and that was my front tire may be low on tread for that trip and a set would be hard to come by so we will look into a Sportech he has if it looks to used up before we go. I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers with my comments about riding in the rain... Get it, ruffle feathers...rain...ha-ha-ha...Whaddya mean this isn't a Duc (duck) board? In fact I may have been a little steamed at the time I typed that and my mood may have come across through what I was typing. Hell, it don't matter to me how anyone rides (as long as it is not jeopardizing the safety of those around them), but the most important thing is that they do ride. Just like bikes, even though I prefer bikes of the American persuasion it really doesn't matter to me what somebody rides, just as long as they ride.

To make amends for any negative ju-ju I brought about, here are some pics I've come across recently and just scanned tonight.
First of all, here is a picture of me after being presented with the Buell crash trophy after having a S3-T slide out from underneath me late one season:
1313 and THE trophy
Dave - Notice the Cycle World cover on the wall? Yes, that's the same one hanging in my living room.
It may not be that easy to see, but there were shift levers, turn signals, and clutch lever balls from crashes and the trophy even had training wheels on it:
Trophy close up
To enlighten Jim (Nance) a little here are a couple of shots taken during better days for my 4-wheeled ride.
First at Buell (notice the old signs - i.e. REAL pegasus...):
DED SLD at Buell
And then, for those more Harley inclined, the address 3700 W. Juneau Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53210 should be a pretty historical landmark:
DED SLD at H-D
I still can't figure out why I drove it there on such a nice looking day, but I do remember getting rear ended in the DED SLD just a block or two away from Juneau in the RAIN one day though.
This last picture will mean absolutely NOTHING to any of you, because none of your bikes came from the factory with a WP (White Power, yes really, from Holland) rear shock. Based on the welded multipiece header on the bike I would say that this is a S2, but anything through the 1998 MY had an OE WP rear shock. This was one owner's sentiment on having the exposed spring WP recalled and replaced with the Showa canister shock.
Shocking
A closer view:
Shocking close up

Hey Brankin, wish I could ride more, so you aren't ruffling us at all, in fact you should pester us to get us out on two wheels more often, frees the spirit and the soul...thought about not having a cage but between job, kids, and most importantly just plain whimping out on the cold, I can't do it. Did ride to work one morning at 19 degrees...Fuel on throttle cable froze up...I feel like less than 10% of the bikes out there get fired up and on the road in anything but the nicest weather so I ride more than most. So Brankin you keep riding and the rest of us will see you and those few others and try to ride more and wish we were half that gutsy. I know there is a guy that rides through Fuquay in any weather and I always think I should not be wimping out and driving my cage. Larry

One footnote to my meeting with John Martindale. He asked for a date of our next meeting. I know we have always had problems with when to have a meeting, so I just said the second Sunday of the month which makes if February the 12th. I will leave the time open but sometime in the afternoon will work for me.

Sorry about the abrupt change in plans. I initially went to talk to John about Shelton's interest in keeping BRAG. John was all ready to go and we had to get the form sent in by the end of the month. All that was needed to complete the renewal form was the dealer liaison and the director. Since we were both there, in it went.

The officers, as it stands, are...

Dealer Liaison is John Martindale the General Manager of Shelton's HD/Buell in Goldsboro
Director is me
Asst. Director is 1313
Treasure is Aydenxb9
Secretary is Spike

As far as for officers, I would love to do more with BRAG but in reality, just like everyone else here, I have limited time to devote to it. The little spare time I have I like to spend that with the family and go out riding. I think that is why I ride to work. It is a time I can get away and ride without feeling guilty about being away from the family. I try to incorporate my love for riding with the family.

Most of you are aware that Carlee is my co-pilot. She has dragged her boots around corners with me more than once and wheelied with me on the Uly. Baylee has ridden with me on around the neighborhood and loves to do the fast launch I do from 20 to 40mphs. For Kristi, a ride on the back is a getaway. This is why I passed on the other XBs. I could not do a ride like Kristi and I did with the BRAG event this past October on a Lightning or Firebolt. That Thursday of the BRAG event was the most fun riding day for me. It was not because the roads were that great, or I was dragging knees and parts through curves. It was because I got to spend the whole day in pretty scenery with Kristi. We rode 180 miles of mountain roads two-up and Kristi just smiled the whole way. Best ride for me to date and the Uly has the capability to do more days like that.

I'm excited about Daytona. I want to go to T.W.O. for March Madness, but I can't do both. I just wouldn't feel right about it so I have limited myself to one main ride per every two months. That way I can still enjoy the ride and not feel guilty about it. I just wish I could get Kristi to ride with me on each ride. I hope BRAG comes up with something in this neck of the woods (within 600 miles) again this year so Kristi and I can repeat last October. If not, we still want to do C3 riding adventures. Here is what is on the list.

We talked about doing a Father/Child ride and camping around U4euh and Rubberdown's way. I know that U4euh, JNance and myself were talking about it. We need to plan that weekend jaunt. All are welcome but this will be a kids oriented event. So no strippers this time.

We talked about another trip to Pete's Cabin before he sells it or Boone as a C3 BRAG event.

Homecoming in June. It's still a little early but I may do a redo on last year's ride to Cincinnati with 1313. I will not be able to make it all the way to Homecoming though.

We talked about CCS at VIR.

I know we talked about doing more local rides and collecting money for local events like Battletrax, but for me the ride and the company is all I need. You guys are all great to know, and I like our little group. We are a riding group and I would love to keep that going. If we want to do more than that, great. As a team where many of us get involved and pitch in, we can do it. In reality we have all facets of riding here. From the wife's who want to relax from the daily grind to the weekend warriors that do the Buell name justice. When we meet in February we can talk about changes to officers and what we want to do next. Track days, mountain trips for C3, national BRAG events. Bike weeks and Daytona. We do not have to all go, but one thing became obvious in DC, we are a tight group even if we are spread out.

Damn 1313 I like the ride, I am still looking for a flower car made from a lincoln Continental

As for riding in the rain, I have done it far more than I ever wanted to, but If given a choice i will not chose to ride in the rain, I even prefer bitter cold to rain any day...though stowed in the right saddle bag is a rain suit just in case.
That trophy rocks...

A new Buell announced on my birthday? What a coincidence.

Was thinking about something though . . .

Here we are 4 years into the current XB motor when Buell develops a mostly new motor and takes it racing- the ultimate durability test. I think we'll definitely see some variation of this in an upcoming XB model for the street. With the new motor making 150hp they should be able to develop a tamer, street-legal variation generating a good 120-130hp.
