Since we've been wondering exactly when March Badness will be this year I posted a question in the 3%'ers section. Here's the response:

Clown Says, "The Demo event is scheduled for March 31 - April 2. We will still call it March Badness. MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!!!!"
And if Clown don't know, don't nobody know.

For those of us originally concerned, it looks like it will be possible to do both Daytona and March Badness! YOO-HOO!

Spike,
I hope you didn't take my 'bitching about WalMart comments seriously - twas only a joke. I think you know, but just wanted to make sure...
I remember you said you replaced the front fairing bracket (or whatever they call it nowadays on those new-fangled XB's) due to the damage caused on your original one at VIR. Do you happen to have the pieces of the original or did you deep six them? I need to do a little research and could really use to borrow the pieces if you still have them. No rush in doing this - in fact I won't be ready to do anything until after I get back from Christmas in East Troy, maybe even later. One other thing, you mentioned that it is possible to add images when you edit a post. I've never been able to figure that out - notice my sequential posts last night. PM me about this if you can help me out so we don't waste everyones time with it.

On the subject of cold weather gear. I have First Gear Kilimanjaro Jacket and Pants. Wearing jeans, a long sleeve button up and undershirt, I just rode to ECU for finals. Forty-plus miles at 32°F and I was fine. I don't think I would have been comfortable for a road trip to say South Carolina, but a fleece pull over and the Uly's hand guards, I probably could. It also does a great job of protect you if you go down.

Of course I still have to plug the holes introduced to the gear when I tried Ice skating with the Uly. I have a couple of dime size holes that I need to patch up to get back the wind breaker/rain protection back.

As far as for March, decisions, decisions, decisions. I don't know if I can do both, but I'm good for one of them, just don't know which one yet.

1313,

No worries about the wal-mart comment. I was only bothered by that thread when Blake tried to label me as being negative. I still have the XB fairing bracket, it's even in one piece. Let me know when you want it. About the add images, I think my actual comment was that you can not add images with the edit post function. I found out the hard way while trying to post my M2 pictures a while back.

Mike,

Where did you pick up the Motoline Husky suit? I've tried googling it, but the best I've found are a few reviews and some German sites.

Carlos,
I got your message last night. I was up, just listening to tunes and didn't hear the phone ring. If nothing else I will try calling over the weekend. I can't see how one can decide on one event between Daytona and March Badness. Daytona will be THE PLACE TO BE for Buell activity in 2006! March Badness - well if we didn't already have an pre-arranged trip last year, we would've gone to it last year. I'm sure this years March Badness will definitely also be an event not to miss.

I just found out today that my best friend from back home (the guy who loaned Frank a S3-T during Homecoming and the guy who worked the Seattle IMS Show a couple of weekends back) will be working the DC IMS Show! When are we going to nail down our plans for the show? I'd like to give my friend some more details, but I ain't got none to give.

March Badness will definitely also be an event not to miss.

Ezblast invited me to go on the SLO ride he is putting together in California. That invitation came with the offer to borrow a bike. I've very tempted to go. But it is the same weekend as March Badness, which I am also wanting to attend. I guess there are worse things than having to choose between 2 good things.

I am interested in the IMS show. Rebecca needs to visit some family up there, so if a bunch of us carpool up, I may ride up with you all and back with her.

Hey everyone. I'm gonna be back in a couple of weeks. Yes, my time here is up. I'm not sure when I will be able to ride though. I had to have "Another" hernia surgery over here in Iraq. I do need to ask a favor of someone though. I will need to get my bike out of storage, and I don't think I will be able to ride it and was wondering if someone might have a trailer that I could borrow to move it from the storage facility to my house. Did ya'll ever decide anything on those patches? I don't get to check my gmail that much so if you want to email me, feel free to email me at lassiterrd@cemnf-wiraq.usmc.mil Ya'll take it easy.

Hey Robert, er... David, er... well I gues I can't go wrong with Southern Marine...

Good to hear from you! Good to know that you are coming back soon. Do you know exactly how soon you will be back? Or more to the point, do you know if you will be back in time to join us for an adventure to the Washington DC IMS Show (International Motorcycle Show)? The dates are January 13-15. We have been talking about going up on Saturday the 14th, but nothing has been etched in stone at this point.

Since I don't have a trailer I can't say for sure on that one, but since I am less than 5 miles from where your bike is stored I will assist in any way that I can (assuming I am back from East Troy by the time you will be getting the bike out of storage). I know a couple of C-3'ers that do have trailers, and they've been very helpful with me. I can't speak for them, but I'm pretty sure that as a group we will be able to help you get your bike out of storage and home safely.

Some local news for you. I saw on the news the other night that they finally opened the Hwy 17 bypass in/around/through J'ville. I have no idea what advantages it has or even what it bypasses, but it is a little 'news from home'.

Let us know,

David, Great news. I was thinking about that day at the Fish Camp when you told me you were heading out. It's good to hear we are at the other end of this. Brankin is right, I have a trailer if you need it. I can help you load and unload if you need it. Just let me know.

We did not make any decisions on where to get the patches. It was a point that everyone had something going on during the time so we did not get back together to make a decision. So when you get back we can get a consensus and told numbers to order and go from there.

Brankin, that's cool. I'll be in and out all weekend so hopefully we can get together. By the way, I'm in for DC. I still say we need to push these fair weather riders into riding.

David, glad to hear you're coming home. What a great Christmas gift!

Carlos has a trailer, I have a trailer, getting your bike home will be NOO PROBLEMO.

By the time your ready to do the fish camp thing, maybe OMH will be open all the way through again!

On another vein, who's up for the IMS in DC? My thought was to go on Saturday, January 14th (See Brankin, I can get dates right once in a while). Leave early, stay long, have good time. Maybe even get lost on the train again. Good? Bad? Get lost Dave?

One other thing, we have a lurker amongst us who's a little shy to pipe up. He thinks he has nothing to add to the conversation. He's riding a BLast! bought for his wife but he's been on it more than her. He's got an '05 Super Glide Custom that is gathering dust all the sudden. All I ask is that we shame and humiliate him until he speaks of his conversion.

Peace out,
Dave

Speaking of the Blast! I've wondered why you don't own one Brankin, given that you worked on them for Buell. I figure its either that they don't fit your riding style, or well you worked on them for Buell.

Thanks everyone. I'm not exactly sure of the date when I'll be home and if I did, couldn't let that out. Unfortunately I won't be able to go to the DC show. My wife has some other plans and if I took off anywhere she'd kill me. : ) I'll hook up with ya'll about helping me get my bike. They told me that they moved it to the store in Kinston, a bigger facility. I'll give ya'll a hollar when I get home, Thanks. Ya'll have a good one.

Hi Jim...I did get your number, but plans have changed a little. My wife and I will be in Raleigh on Thursday, the 22nd. I failed to realize the following Sat. is Christmas Eve. and my son will be en route to Greensboro. Is there any chance you will be home this coming Thursday? Vacation maybe? I will be taking my sons CRX in for new tires for his birthday/christmas present...and also for a test drive. new clutch and used tranny put in two weeks ago. My god man, does it ever end? Can you recommend a decent tire store near Gorman and i-40? I'm sure we can be in Raleigh between 11am and 1pm. Heck, If you get enough time for lunch break, I can meet you at your house and take a quick look at the Uly. Hope to meet up with you Jim... Later...Mike S

Twig - Thursday is a definite possibility. I'll be working, but I can take off for lunch.

As far as tire stores go, I usually use Raleigh Tire. It's probably about a 15 minute drive from here. I've seen them talk people out of service they assumed they needed, which gives them high marks for honesty in my book. Their number is (919) 755-1875 and here is a map:

andyh,

Anyone going to the homecoming in June? Anyone been before and can offer advice on going -where to stay and such?

You've come to the right place!

I've been to every Homecoming Buell has had even before BRAG was running the show and there was this little group called the Buell Owners Club:
1992 BOC
2001 Homecoming - Aussie
In fact I will be in East Troy, Wisconsin late this Thursday night because I will be flying home for Christmas with my parents. My parents live about 1/2 mile from Buell. I've usually stayed at my parents house during Homecoming, except for this past year because a friend of mine (and Buell owner) from Germany came over for Homecoming and we stayed at the host hotel (West Bend, Wisconsin this past year). I turned 100,000 miles on my S2 on the way to Homecoming 2005. You can read about it here.

It is difficult figuring out where to stay at the present time because they have centered the events around different areas over the past few years. The only 2 constants in the Homecoming equation are a day at the factory (2005 we had lunch with the Buell emloyees, a.k.a. my old friends), and the AMA races at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

I guess I will have to use your line and say 'I'll have to wait until nearer the date before I can provide information tho...' at least until BRAG announces their schedule of events for Homecoming 2006.

Anyone who makes it to Homecoming (this year or any future year) will have a guided tour of the best riding the area has to offer as well as stopping at a previous location or two used by Buell - as long as you hook up with me at the factory. Ask Buellish, Jose, or anyone of the others that accompanied me last year and they will tell you it was a good ride - especially when we met that 'crazy man' in the black Dodge SXT flashing his high beams and giving us a BIG thumbs up on one of the backroads. That 'crazy man' was none other than Erik Buell.

Anyone notice Buell increases 2006 Contingency Program over on the Quick Board?
"Details of the 2006 Buell contingency program, including the racer registration form, will be posted on buell.com on January 23, 2006."

I have a hunch that January 23, 2006 will become a very important day in Buell history...

Since I was in Raleigh today, I took the time to meet Jim and see his new Uly. Real nice bike , big and tall. I'm barely 5'8, and was just able to hold the bike up with my toes. Jim, coming back 64W instead of I-40 was so much easier. That will be my route from now on. Good to meet you, hope you have a great holiday. Mike S

Hello,

I'm up in Ohio. We loaded the Suburban down with TWO car top carriers and still just barely had enough remove for the six of us inside. Dave, boy did that truck need that tune up. Man the truck did great up hills even with the load and I got good gas mileage considering it was more brickish than usual. 420 miles with 1/3 of a tank left, now thats range!

Mike S, I have a Uly and am 5'7", believe me you get use to the height. I hope one day I will be able to tell you how well the low seat works. Still waiting on parts! Do not ship parts during Christmas.

If I don't get back on before then, everyone have a Merry Christmas!

I think I need a big old bagger with a sidecar rig. This way I will be able to drive home for Christmas without fear of snow and ice and not be forced to deal with US Airways always 'misplacing' my luggage. Hopefully they will get the bag to me sooner than the occurrence last year when I got back to NC (1st bag took 2 days, 2nd bag took 10 days!).

US Airways!

Oh, the good news - I'm about a half mile from the Buell factory as I write this. I will send some pics if my suitcase - with camera safely packed inside - ever arrives...

Hi, I wanted to wish EVERYONE A Very Merry Christmas. I hope Everyone gets to spend lots of time with their loved ones.

I rode to work today and wow it was cold. I need a wind skirt for my helmet,to keep the airflow down, as that was my only really cold spot, although when I finally got to work I was slightly chilled(kinda like a good wine...yeah right). I did notice in Garner that the temp on one digital sign was 19 and then went to 20 while I was waiting at the stoplight. But my biggest problem was it seemed that my throttle froze..It wasn't bad on release but acceleration took quite a bit of extra pull. Has anyone else had this problem? It seems strange on a bike that was built in Detroit and generally see's much colder temps. It is garaged so it is unlikely to have water in there. Oh well, it was a nice ride home(with no throttle difficulties). Let me know if any of you have experienced this. Merry Christmas to all of you, Larry Ezzell and Family.

a bike that was built in Detroit

Must be un a them thar rare Detroit-built Buell's... Seriously though, no Buell has ever been built in Detroit - during my co-op days at Buell a RS or RSS had some Fuel Injection work done on it in a Detroit metro suburb - but NO Buell has ever been built in Detroit.

The Buell factory is located just a scant .54 miles
from where I am sitting right at this moment in East Troy, Wisconsin.
Long drive

Here are some pics of the Buell factory taken just about an hour ago:
Buell in East Troy, WISCONSIN 12-24-05

Buell factory in East Troy, WISCONSIN 12-24-05 2

From the pictures it looks like the weather is worse than it actually is. It's like a warm front went through just before I arrived. I rode the V-Rod to work in New Bern on Thursday morning and it was 22°, and when I stepped off the plane in Milwaukee at 11:00 p.m. and it was 38°! Today it was in the high 30's/low 40's and a lot of the snow was melting. However they did say that we would get a light coating of snow overnight and the low overnight would only be about 31°. So it looks like it will be a white Christmas here in East Troy!

Well, here are my Buell Christmas greetings. I am not responsible for creating any of them, so you might have seen them before.
Buell Santa
S3 Christmas
Santa Blast!
Merry Christmas Badweb

Merry Christmas All (from East Troy)!
