Anyone else have the plastic ring holding the lense in fail on an R model Low beam? While riding the other day my glass lense popped out. I only noticed cause I ran over it and heard it flick up under the bike and saw it in the mirror. It seems like the plastic has become very brittle from the heat and has cracked in a couple of places. Going to see my dealer to get an assessment for warranty this morning as the bike is 9months old and only done 6000km.

Yup. It happened on mine a few weeks ago. Unfortunately Buell does not just make a replacement ring. You have to buy the entire low beam assembly, the part number is y0400.02a8 and it is 39.50. I noticed mine because it started making a horrible rattling noise and I couldn't figure out what it was, until somebody pointed out that the low beam was shaking unbelievably bad. I guess I lucked out that the lens didn't fall out.

What the heck, no warranty replacement on that? You have to pay to have that fixed yourself?!

I had mine crack and the dealer covered it under warranty.

If you look close at a new part there is a knit line from molding the part. That's where mine failed.

Starter that's the way it should happen. The part is cheap, but replacing it can be a pain in the butt.

Mine did it too a week after I bought the bike. I don't think the plastic is cracking due to heat. Mine appeared to be a stress crack along the mold parting line. Dealer replaced the light under warranty.

Happened to me also. Noticed the lens flopping around while giving the bike a bath. When installing the replacement, I loosened the 4 lens retaining screws by just a hair to avoid stressing the mold joints again. I figure the factory replacement part is just as likely to fail.

Dang, the whole light? That's ridiculous. Both my low beam and high beam rings are cracked.

My dealer replaced mine under warranty, until I was able to get it in the shop I just taped around them with electrical tape to hold the lens in.

My high beam has been loose from the plastic bracket since day one. Had it apart to try to tighten it, but no luck. I never complained, should have. About 22K miles the clip that holds the light bulb in finally had broken(my guess is due to the vibration). Shorted out and burned out the entire high beam assembly.

Had purchased a new headlight holder and was thinking about doing a Hela conversion some months back. I was happy to just find the headlight lens around. It sucked having only a low beam.

We can only hope for a recall for better lights for the R.

Maybe one of you guys in the US could give Buell Customer Service a call to point out this issue.
