Hey guys. I was just curious if anyone here has ever used MDI carbon parts on their bike? I'm getting by bike back on the road after a few years, and thought I'd give it a facelift in the process.

I used to work in a composite shop, so I can be very discriminate on the look and fit of the components. All the stuff I made for my bike has become sunbaked, and I thought it'd be nice if I could freshen it up a bit.

Sux to have bare carbon in the sunlight.

I've had good luck lightly sanding and clear coating with a high quality UV resistant polyurethane clear... many of which are no longer available here in California (sigh...)

DuPont Imron clear TDS

PPG also has a line of clear UV-protecting polyurethanes and catalyzed acrylics.

You can get quarts but it's pricey for either DuPont or PPG

You should talk to an auto paint seller (not a body shop). They have clear coats that protect red and orange from the sun.

I have MDI Carbon Fiber on my XB9S. Pulley Cover,Front Fender, Air Box Cover, Frame/Tank Sides, Oil Cooler Intake, and Windscreen. Looks good but had some mounting issues with the Pulley Cover (they sent me a replacement and it worked great) and the Air Box Cover (only got front two screw to line up and hold in place).

MDI was great to work with and Ioni is on top of making the customers happy!

Yeah, their quality seems to be there, but their delivery times suck, and their customer service is worse.

I ordered a belt guard from MDI. After 9 days, a belt guard arrived, but it was the wrong weave. I emailed, and after three days of silence I was emailed back and asked to make sure I ordered the right part... after two weeks of going back and forth, I sent the belt guard back and inquired about a carbon undertail as well. I was sent an invoice and it had a discount for my trouble. I happily paid. After waiting five weeks, the correct part showed up unannounced. At least it was correct.

The undertail is still not here. It was ordered on May the 15th. Every time I call or email, I’m assured it’s coming, and given excuses as to why it’s not shipped yet. It still hasn’t shipped as of last Friday. We’re entering the 14th week. I don’t know if I’ll ever get it at this point.

The Tekarbon piece is beautiful. It’s clear-coated, fits nice, and arrived 4 days after I ordered it. Deal went off w/out a hitch.

GoPro mount.

Also, I've had no issues with Customer Service, timeliness of delivery, or communication. I had to wait a little bit for a part or two that were backordered but not long, and it was communicated clearly.
