Are the belts on the 2006 Ulysses and other models using the same frame/swingarm (XB12SS, XB12STT) the same? Reason I ask is I have lowered suspension about 1.5" which will change normal swing arm axle, presumably resulting in tighter belt. I have a Trojan/Free Spirits belt tensioner, and installed new belt. It is way too tight. I know this is a common problem without modifying suspension and have seen the solutions (drilling out mounting holes to move the position of the tensioner) but if the belt is too short that won't do it. Assuming the Uly belt is the right size now, anyone tried replacing the spring or removing the adjustment nut to give the tensioner more room to move? Anyone been able to loosen out the holes in the FST? There does not seem to be a lot of material there.

Thanks.

The swingarm length is the same for the Uly's STT, and Ss bikes, but the pulley for a Uly is bigger.

Double check the belt part number.

New ones are REALLY tight, but you should be able to install it.

The Uly, SS, and STT all use the same frame, swingarm, belt, tensioner, etc.

The stock tensioner design allows the suspension to move up and down without making a significant change in tension.

I'm not intimately familiar with the Free Spirts tensioner, can it be adjusted to loosen up? It is banjo string tight on the stock tensioner with a new belt, but will quickly break in and loosen up.

Make sure your belt says "G0500.1AKx" on it, that is the Uly/Lightning Long belt. The x is the revision code, but they all fit the same.

Hey Froggy, I’m sure you’re right, but how do they use the same belt with the bigger Uly pulley?

All 2004+ XB models have the same pulleys (65 tooth rear, 27 front). It is the 1125s that have the bigger ones.

Thanks Guys:

The Free Spirit can be adjusted: with a file to extend the bolt hole, just like stock. that seems to have done the trick. The spring is not coil bound so there is a little bit of give left in it. I haven't tried it but it looks like you can tighten up the FST with a nut to pre-load the spring.

That's so weird. All XB pulleys are the same??

I know the 1125CR pulley is bigger than the 1125R but...

I got a stock Uly pewter colored wheel with a pulley that was bigger than my XB pulley on it. I assumed ULYs just had bigger pulleys. Excuse my Uly ignorance.

Yep all the same. The one exception is the 03s which had an entirely different belt with different pulleys, tensioner, and guards.

I'm curious about your Uly, what belt and pulley does it have?
