Stone Mountain Harley-Davidson/Buell had their 6th year party this Saturday and they had a Dyno set up for drag racing. The 3%ers showed up in force to duke it out. There was a lot of trash talking but when it was all said and done New12R spanked us all. Here is some pics of the hooligan activities!

Black_sunshine on my XB9S and SilverBullet on his X1. I ran a 11.8 sec 1/4 mile at 116 mph with 84 hp at the rear (Stock). SBullet ran a 11.6 sec at 116.3 mph with 85.1 hp at rear. (V&H pipe)

Glitch on his XB9S(K&N, race ecm & Odie pipe) and New12r on his XB12R(9 race kit). New12r put up the biggest numbers and ran a 10.7 sec at 124 mph with 98 hp to rear. Glitch ran a 11.58sec at 119.3 with 83.6 at the rear.

New12r and StealthXB. Stealth ran New12r the tightest on his XB12S (K&N & Odie pipe) with 11.0 sec at 122mph with 88.8 at the rear. Stealth only lost by 3/10 of a sec!

Glitch and Along4theride. After much convincing, A4TR did a run with very impressive numbers on her XB12r(race kit). She ran a 11.58sec at 119.3 mph with 83.6 hp to the rear.

Special thanks to Cameron (Clown) at SMHD/BUELL for setting that up. I believe we earned a lot of respect from the Harley crowd. They stood around with their moths open in disbelief.

Looks like it might be toasty on the crotch, what with no air to cool the Thunderstorm.

The heat wasnt bad, and it was a Blast! A4TR has a 9R with the full race kit, My 12 has just the 9 pipe on it, pulls really strong. We will need more competition next year.

Seems like an awfully large difference in 1/4 mile times between the 12 and the 9...I had read they were much closer. (thought I had)
a 10.7 is a very nice time

great photo's by the way

Ummm, B_S I have a '03 XB9R with the race kit.

Yeah I tell everyone I had great numbers on the DYNO but had it been real life I would have been lying flat on my back from dumping the bike between 1st and 2nd. Don't think I would have been able to hold that wheelie.

Sorry A4TR...typo..are you sure it isn't a XB9X?

Gonen60...I think a lot had to do with the driver. It was my first time doing such a thing and it feels really weird to be going so fast but not actually moving. My second run I actually hit neutral.

The one time I ran the dyno drags they had a hell of a time with my bike. Such a bad time in fact it was only good for the dyno numbers and not the timed running. Twice they had to have me shut down cause the tire was bouncing off the roller when I shifted.

It is a very strange feeling. FTD and I watch em at Daytona Biketoberfest and Bike Week every year. Loads of Fun. We watched a non-Harley V-Twin make a run. All of a sudden chunks of debris starting flying from the guy's bike. Chewed up his drive belt. Saw another guy's bike get sideways on the roller.

Glitch-
You know I was/am quite puzzled by this. Your HP, MPH and reaction time on that run beat my last run, yet I did 11.58?????
All your numbers were higher than mine yet my 1/4 mile was ever so slightly higher than yours?????

Also, Joy had you down as being the fastest. Somehow the DYNO printed out a race between you and Charlie where you did 135.5MPH. We kinda had to correct all that but hey somewhere in imaginary DYNO land you kicked everyone's Arse even Charlie's.

Sorry A4TR...typo..are you sure it isn't a XB9X?
You're right my Bad it's an X Yeah, yeah I remember now, that's what

You could have gone 200mph, but it wouldn't matter much if you left the starting line 10 seconds after I did.

But your reaction time was better than mine???
Wouldn't that indicate the YOU left the line before I???

I'll look at my sheet this evening and try to explain.
It was however just for fun.
The dyno, the times, none of them were very accurate I'm sure.
Just for fun.
If you really wanna see how good drag racer you are, head up to Commerce during "Run What Cha Brung" or if you're curious about your HP and Torque curve, Custom Chrome does curiosity runs on their dyno for around 30 or 40 bucks.

edit: I wonder if we're talking about the same race? I did 6 runs.

Oh I know it was for fun, and that it was- thanks for 'talking me into it'. I'm just curious as to how if all your numbers were higher how could my 1/4 mile have been faster????

Oh no, I'll leave that to the big boyz. Like I said previously if it had been for real I would have been lying flat on my back from the 1st gear wheelie.

Stone Mountain is about 30 or 45 minutes north east of Atlanta.

Exactly. The dyno truck is fun & I have competed on it myself..Sturgis 2000 at the Full Throttle saloon. I ended up with one of the top ten times for the day aboard my Dyna, But hopefully nobody is thinking the times produced on the truck are indicators of real world times. I was running 12.1's at 106 mph. I know there is no way in hell the bike would run anywhere close to that time on a track.

Still its a fun event & a good way to waste a day. Glad you had fun.

Seems kinda strange that spinnin' a barrel under your tire, trying to spin it faster than the guy next to you, is fun.
But it is! I had a great time.
We had the truck all day, and I'll bet there weren't 20 bike that ran, so the line moved pretty fast. A lot of people had a bunch of runs.

Having observed the dyno drags for years at Bike Week and Biketoberfest I have come to the conclusion that the HP numbers are similar to other "normal" dynos. But, the ET's are right at one second too low. So, Dyna's Dyna low 13's,
X1/XB9's mid 12's, XB12's high 11's.
Just my take on things.

Frank, I would agree with the approximately 1 second differential.

When I ran it out in Sturgis it was free for everyone, then a couple years ago in Milwaukee they started charging $20. Whats it up to now?

A4R you could have shifted better then Glitch did which would indicate why your ET was quicker then his. Its not uncommon for a "Fast Loser" to have a higher top speed then the winner in drag racing. If you kept shifting in the sweetspot where you stayed near peak power you would have run quicker then Glitch shifting outside the sweetspot as his engine would have lost time by being out of the peak when he shifted also if you managed to shift quicker then he did, IE, partial to very little clutch VS full clutch grab can make a difference in ET as well.

clutch what clutch up near red line you dont need no freagin clutch it shifts smoother and is much faster to not use it if you practice it and get it right that is just remember to preload the shifter and roll off 1/4 throttle it will fall into the next gear and viola pin it again :P
