Howdy folks. Typically a lurker here but I wanted to query the local knowledge regarding the dreaded front isolator failure.

I've gotta 06 Uly w/ 55k (Dr. Greg's old bike actually) which I enjoy thoroughly. Recently, I noticed I was "missing" an exhaust stud in the front while running errands. By the time I got the few miles home, both front studs had snapped and also took out a rear stud. Replacing the studs is a hassle but doable and I started to tear the bike down for an engine rotation when I noticed I was missing the front band strap bolt for the stock muffler. Realizing that added stress on the studs, its no wonder they broke.

I always try to understand failures when they happen which made me think about the general condition of the bike. It had been vibrating a little more than usual and realized that my front isolator is on its last legs.

Quick searching here and the other Buell forums made me alarmed that these failure prone parts are in quite short supply. I've found some on ebay for ~$160. Ouch. There are a few DIY CNC projects out there as well but it doesn't seem like they are commercially available as of yet.

Looking at the mount, I wonder if anyone has burned/pressed out the old rubber bushing and replaced it with a similar rubber bushing or something polyurethane turned down on a lathe. I'm concerned that poly wouldn't have enough give in the longitudinal direction and might allow more vibration and thus fasteners to jettison themselves from their respective homes.

In summary, has anyone came up with a more clever setup than what was stock or am I wasting my time and should just order the worlds most expensive motor mount?

This one gets good reviews, not cheap but about what your seeing for the stock piece.

I bought a stock one several years ago and it was over $100. The price just sucks but that's the cost of small batch manufacturing.

Looks to be easily available to me...

I just replaced the one on my 2008 XB12XT this past weekend (at 79,705 miles) with one that I had on the shelf.

Short answer, IMO, is no.
Call Lance at St. Paul H/D, he can hook you up with a new unit.
