I have owned this 2006 Ulysses for a while and I am working through a few Gremlins. I have the overheating problem so I put in new plugs, changed all fluids, (unrelated but a new clutch), the rider comfort kit, and I reset the TPS. I still have the overheating issues. I also have some starting issues so I added an extra ground. It helped but on the computer it shows 12V while idling. My bike needs to be trickle charged regularly to keep it up. I had the battery tested and it is fine. The bike runs fine otherwise.

Describe the symptoms of your overheating problem.

Your charging system has a problem if you see 12v while idling. How are you measuring it, and what is the exact value (include one more decimal point).

I am measuring through the computer connection on the display. Before adding the extra ground it showed 11.2. Now it shows 12.0

So you are using ECM Spy with a computer and measuring the ECM reported voltage?

Got a digital volt meter you could throw across the battery terminals?

I will hit it with a multimeter. On the ECM, it does show an increase in voltage with RPM.
For my overheating, after riding for more than 25 min or so, the bike will go in skip spark mode and the ,light will go on. This is not during heavy use extremely hot days. I did make sure the fins are clean on my oil cooler. The fan is running well. I have read about replacing the O2 sensor and the temp sensor but I don't want to just start replacing parts for no reason.

In addition, the bike is hard to start when it is warm. (Like when you stop for gas and try to restart).

I checked the voltage across the battery terminals at idle. I got 12.13

I put a multimeter across the terminals and got 12.13V at idle.

I did the milliamp draw test and found I was losing 30mA. I tracked it down to the stator. The loss went away when the stator was unhooked. I also found that the stator was bad by doing the continuity test in the manual. New stator ordered and hopefully it will help my other problems.

The stator should be isolated from the battery by the voltage regulator; so you might want to test it too.
Or.
Now would be a good time to upgrade to the digital V/Reg.

It seems pretty common for a stator to crap out and take the regulator along with it.
