2006 xb12r, 6k miles. Has sat around with fuel of questionable quality in it quite a bit, mainly due to the fact the PO was an idiot.

I picked it up, filled her with premium, commenced shake down run. 40 miles at 80mph.

Stopped for 10 minutes, fired it back up, immediately noticed HARD misfire at partial throttle, coughing and spitting hard.

After 5 minutes of keeping the RPM's down while trying to ride, misfire works itself out, bike runs a little better.

Stop for 10 minutes, same deal when I restarted.

Stopped for 1.5 hours, same deal, but not as severe.

Zery interesting.

Here are my thoughts:

1. I've got new plugs which I am installing today
2. I'm going to drain the gas and refill with fresh, to include an additive of some sort.
3. I plan on ohm testing the temp sensor at full temp.
4. Same with the IAT sensor.
5.02 sensor cycling, I need to spec out how to test that.

I was going to use you guys as a general misinformation pool. Any thoughts? Preferences on additives? Would seafoam be bad for her? I need to get her running right and prepared for Deal's Gap in a few weeks.

Thanks for your help!!!!!

Matt

I had a similar issue with my 2008 XB12R. It ran well, until I shut it off and restarted it, when the engine wasn't all the way cooled down. It would then run like crap for 5-10 minutes, until it was hot again. This never happened after a cold start. There were no trouble codes and the plugs were good, so I just dealt with it. I ended up getting a Drummer and the EBR ecm. The bike ran worse than before. After talking to EBR, they told me to send my ECM back. They went through the data and suggested changing my O2 sensor. I changed it and wanted to punch myself in the face. That was the problem the entire time.

You appear to be on the right path to solving your issue. Good luck.

I had similar issues with a recent purchase of my '07 XB12Ss. Bike had sat a long time and had old gas in it. Tank was full...bike would cough and had a mild misfire on the throttle.
I put some StarTron Enzyme fuel treatment in the tank. Basically eliminated all issues. Have since ran the tank low and refilled with fresh gas and still running fine.

Well, I have already ordered and received the spark plugs. Tonight, I have ordered the o2 sensor, and tomorrow morning, I'm going to throw some fuel treatment in there, via Lucas.

Looks like O2 sensors are easy to get.

I think the issue is centered around the Micron. Best to let me take it off your hands for you : p .

I have something pretty rare with those Micron pieces of junk. Super junky, useless, pointless brand new never used chin spoiler adapters. It's a damn shame I'm not converting her back to stock fairings.

I took her out for a shakedown run, and it is running perfectly now. I suspect it was the o2 sensor.

Now I need to create some more support points for the fairings. Apparently, airtech never actually tested their fairings with the motor turned on. She shimmies and shakes, violently at high speeds. It rubs the oil cooler, front primary pipe, and the rear of the muffler.

Airtech is much like Clint Eastwood. They don't give a damn about your problems lol.
