As some of you might remember, I had my tires M&B'd at the local honda shop a few months ago. They put a pretty good nick in the powder coat along the bead. A noticeable one from five feet or so away. I talked to the sales manager and he said he'd swap the next set for free. I took them to him, the tech was real careful and didn't do any MORE damage... Life was good.

I took my rear wheel in to them today to get a new Metzeler mounted. I picked it up today and when I got home and took a look, I noticed that their machine had stripped the powder coat off the outer edge of the bead section for about 1/3 of the way around and about 1/8" wide. Needless to say I was flaming mad. I called and got the sales manager again (he seems to be in charge of the service dept too...) and told him as much. I took it back in to show them and the owner of the place asked me what I'd like him to do... I told him I just wanted to leave with a rim that was in as good of shape as the one I gave them so he's buying me a new rim. I asked him about swapping my brand new rubber to that rim and he said no way. He'll not touch another of my tires. I told him that when his tech is careful and puts duct tape over the bead area that it doesn't seem to do any damage. I'm pretty sure that he won't want to swap out my bearings or loan me a torque wrench so I can torque the pulley and rotor properly so it'll still cost me probably a hundred dollars to fix his tech's mistake. This ticks me off... He wants to keep my old wheel as well. I'll need to take it somewhere to get the brand new Metzeler off of it and put it on the new one and to swap the other parts... Should I give it to him after that or just keep it for a track rim so I can mount race rubber and not have to use up my street tires on the track? If I keep it, I'll go ahead and get another front and a front rotor...

I told him I only wanted to leave w/ what I came in with, so I'd feel a LITTLE bad by keeping the rim, but it's going to cost me the price of a bearing puller and a torque wrench...

Does it sound fair that if I can get him to swap the hardware while I watch I'll leave him the wheel and if he won't I'll keep the wheel?

That sounds perfectly fair to me. Thats BS that they won't fix what they f'd up. They better swap everything including the tire or i'd keep the other wheel too.

The rim should come with new bearings and a spacer in it.
If by some odd chance id doesn't
DO NOT reuse the bearings off of your old rim.
