my buddy was riding my lightning the other day which has 7800 miles on it now and he said it seems as if the main bearing was making a lot of noise. he went to school to be a harley tech but its been about 8 years now since last picking up a wrench on one and says he cant remember from class how noisy the main bearings were on the buell they had in class. i was wondering if anyone in here could shed some light on how noisy the main bearing are or if i should just have harley check it out when i take it in to get the new front tire put on. thanks |

I would also love to know how loud it is normally. I feel like my XB12Ss has a light knock at idle, especially when cold. Seems fine when warm though. |

There are lots of things that can go wrong that will "sound" like a main bearing gone bad. If there is anything wrong it is more likely something other than a bad main bearing. You can listen to it all you want but until you take it apart to find what went wrong, you will only be guessing. Have a shop that is familiar with Buells take a look at it. |

If it is only there at idle, and goes away when the clutch is even barely loading the engine, it is probably a loose stator bell (because the crank nut is loose). |
