Hello, I am interested in buying a 2009 xb12r with 1400 miles on it from a guy in Portland, Oregon. The only problem is that I don't know if it will pass smog. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to smog it or if they even made "49 states" models and "California" models? Thanks in advance,

Mike

Check regs. I THINK (thinking is always dangerous) - you must have at least 7500 miles on the bike before they will allow you to register any vehicle in CA.

Don't know if they'll make you put the CA emissions hardware on the machine.

my bike was previously an arizona titled bike. i was able to title it in CA with no issues. as of right now, motorcycles in CA don't have to have a smog test like every single car or truck has to have. smog, no. mileage, no idea. sorry i can't be any more help.

+1 Dhays

You dont have to worry about the smog, brought my bike from Iowa back in 2008 and never had to have it smogged, even when i registered it on base.

If less than 7,500 miles, they have to pass an emissions inspection at DMV. Arizona bikes have California emissions stickers on them. Not sure about Oregon. The DMV website has the info.

IF you are a Cali resident, you may not buy a NEW 49 state vehicle and register it here Cali defines a vehicle that has less than 7500 miles on it as "New". The only exception I'm aware of is that IF you are a cali resident that is out of state and your vehicle is totalled and you buy a replacement vehicle, that MAY be able to be titled in Cali. That, and some inheritance loophole.

I know of folks that have gotten one titled that had less than 7500 miles, only later to get a notice that undid the title and blackballed the vehicle from ever being registerable here. The mileage on the bill of sale or title transfer docs MUST be higher than 7500 miles, it doesn't matter what is on the vehicle when you actually go to register it.

If you are a non-cali resident and are moving to the state with a new vehicle (sub 7500 miles), then different rules apply, but there are still restrictions.

Al
