So I went for my first long cruise on my recently acquired Firebolt.
Has 6500Miles on cluster, bought w/ bad speed sensor.
H-DNet has it listed as receiving reman engine in 04, LOL....

Has had small oil leak from front rocker cover behind isolator mount, was hoping it would last the summer, but now...

front leak

About 200 miles in today, noticed a severe oil drip down the front pulley cover and starter.
After 2 cans of solvent and letting it idle for a while, noticed oil on head in the tiny little window under seat.

rear leak

I am aware I will have to drop engine to fix this, and already have PDF service manual.

Where is quickest/affordable place to order my gaskets? Local Dealer no longer orders buell parts.(SPIT)
Any special tools needed to fix this?
What else should I do while it is out, While keeping in mind, riding season is almost upon us.

Thanks.

While cleaning around/under starter, noticed this pinched vent line.
Could this have caused the blown gaskets??

That probably the fuel vent line, so no it should not have caused it.

Fastest place will be American Sport Bike, if you want to pay for overnight shipping they can probably have it to you on Friday if you get in touch with them first thing in the morning. Pretty sure they have a whole top end gasket kit. Check the rubber on the front motor mount, if it has never been changed it is probably time and if the front is going the rear probably needs to be replaced too. Might as well get them out of the way while the motor is down.

Your dealer can get all the top end gaskets. If they don't have them in stock, it's only a couple days. Common with Sportster.

Better just get them from Al at American Sport Bike though.

Grab a parts book too - much better to hit the parts counter with the list of parts you're going to be needing. If you are doing your own work, it's the ONLY way to go.

That pinched line is the transmission vent, so unlikely in causing your leaks. Hard to tell how pinched it really is from the photo though. Take a look...

I highly recommend Cometic gaskets, and my favorite new fix in life: Hylomar. I'd probably take the Cometic over the Buell parts, but they have improved them over time. I just had great luck with Cometic over the years and love their products. I purchased the Cometic kit from NRHS, who is a sponsor on here - great guys to work with.

Check the integrity of your front isolator since you're going to be removing it, anyway. Measure the gap between the mount and the bolt head. If less than ~ 1/4", buy a new one. They aren't that expensive and were redesigned for MY06.

It wouldn't hurt to replace the intake seals while you're in that deep, as some people have had issues with them leaking.

Definitely follow the manual when disassembling and reassembling. The loosening/tightening sequence and torque values are critical.
