Choptop,

I think that the VR1000 would be interesting, but as a Sunday Ride type of a bike, or as a display piece...Though it is looking a little long in the tooth, as far as bodywork goes...

Practical, no. But then, neither is the 916 ;^D.

Besides, if you really want a 60 degree V twin, Aprilia is available now. And it's winning races.

If the VR1000 could be made streetable and reliable then I'm sure there are folks who would buy it as an everyday bike. Look at the number of people who own Ducati 748R's and 996R's and those bikes while cool as hell are quite possibly the most uncomfortable everyday bikes known to man. HD/Buell would do better to aim at the RC51 rather than the Aprilia. As nice as it is the Mille is too expensive. Honda looks to be taking a shot at the Nekid Bike class with there new VTX800. A detuned version of the RC51 in a non plastic covered frame.

Did I scare everyone away with that last question?

So far, I've got 1 NO and 1 I dont know answers to buying a street VR1000.

Anyone else? Would you buy a VR1000 (one made for the street) as your only bike if it were offered for sale? And dont throw out the answer, they are for sale but at $70K...I'm talking about if they were suddenly part of the Buell line up, and were priced within the current lineup price range.

Anyone?

As an only bike, no but I know many squids that would buy an AMERICAN SUPERBIKE in a heartbeat.

It would be a great 2nd bike, I would definetly get one and make myself join NESBA or MARRC.

Buell needs this model, as a Flagship, and to be considered a "serious" sportbike company.

Like Ducati, the 996's get all the press, but the Monsters pay all the bills.

No. I really don't enjoy riding race reps. If I wanted one, I'd have one, there are already lots of them on the market.

If Buell decides to go down that path and start making them, I only hope they keep making and improving the real-world bikes they offer now. Or at least make a street version, ala the TL1000S.

Aaron,

I'm thinking of adding a TL 1000 S to my stock. It seems like a great bike. A little aggressive, naked, less trouble than an x1, looks great, same ins. rates as the x1, and priced at less than $9000 new.

TL 1000 S

The Honda Superhawk is about $5 more and very similar.

Superhawk

I agree with most here that Buell should do something but what, I don't know (so many choices). I think these bikes are close competition, so at least the price should be close.

I'll wait to see what the SV1000 looks like (if they do it)...perhaps that's why Suzuki isn't allowing Caviga to sell the Raptor line in the US...

I was almost sold on the TLS until I read about the rotary damper problems...did they ever get that sorted (figure someone here would know, wasn't there a section for TLS owners once upon a time? I seem to recall one)

SportTwins.com or something. Ya, I herd about the rotary shock problems too and that is a concern because the bike I'm looking at is a 98. I was told that its not much of an issue by the dealer. At least less than the Buell recall.

it's funny how we're remembering something about the rotary damper, but not really concerned about the original tank slapper problem....

ChiBueller - Watch out. TLS's are known for frame cracks around the rear shock. Make sure you're example doesn't have that problem. I was on the TLS mailing list and the debacle before I left was that three bikes had cracked frames which suzuki refused to recall or warranty out.

Darn,

Who cares about some technically theoretical pull shock problem that Buell goes out of the way to replace when you compare that to a frame crack.

This TL is a 98 with only 3 miles on it and never been off the showroom floor. The salesman says he wants $6900 just to unload it. A Harley dealer used to own the Honda shop next door to the HD shop but never really tried to move the Japanese stock like he did the HDs. The HD dealer just sold the Honda shop and the new guy is dropping prices to clear all the old stuff out.
