Is it as simple as swapping parts between the two, or i need to do lots of work? Thank you very much to anyone.

I think it would be pretty easy to put a Ss tail on a Uly.

Its a little shorter and you wouldn't have to extend the wires.

It bolts right on, but you will need to rewire it a little bit, and get creative with some things like ECM mounting.

i believe carbonfiberbob did just this, he can switch back and forth in like 30 minutes or something like that.

i might not be remembering it correctly, but it was in a reasonable amount of time.

I don't know about any wiring differences but you will have to fabricate a mount for the preload adjuster. I came at it from the other way (uly suspension on my 06 Ss). I think it makes for a really nice ride.

I have made this change. However, I wanted to be able to trade back and forth, easily, between the two tails. Items that made this difficult include mounting the preload adjuster, ECM mounting, seat latch release, and the completely different fuse and relay block. I solved these by building an undertail that utilized the front half from a Uly and the back half from an SS. I can now change tails in about 45 minutes. As a side note, when you pull the Uly tail, you won't believe what it weighs.

What makes you say it's not that easy?

The facts are this: your Uly already has an SS tail on, with a bigger seat mounted and the Uly tail light housing.

The swap would be easy, and you'l only need to get creative with a couple of pieces as noted above.

Thanks for your support Andy. I'll get soon a SS seat from USA and I'll let you know how things are going.

We did this a few years ago on one of our project bikes. The cast side rails are the same on both bikes except that you will need to drill and tap some of the fixing points for the SS tail and undertray. You will also need to either make a new battery tray or transfer this from the SS. If I remember correctly the parts you will need are;

seat,
tail piece/rear light
undertray
battery box

As has been mentioned previously, you will have to find somewhere to locate the preload adjuster but there is space under the seat to put this.

Here I'am! I finished to work on my Uly. There is something to do still, like fabricate a mount for the preload adjuster but I need to wait until I'll be less busy.

I have used my side rails and I bought the undertail, seat, short tail and the
battery tray.

Sorry, my english is not good enough to explain
all the technical details but I have some pics to show you what we have done.

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

Cheers...

Do you think it's possible to transform the uly undertray to accept the ss tail ?

Thank a lot

I really don't believe so, they are very different. The tray is cheap anyway and not worth the time to hack up.
