I just got a new XB12R (130 Miles). Yesterday riding home the seat and the right side of the body panel right above the frame got so hot it actually burned my leg through my pants. What can I do? Is this normal?

Mine would get pretty hot the first 1500 miles or so. After that it's a lot better. Also, at 500 miles switch to Mobil-1. That will help as well. I gotta say though... at 130 miles you are still under the "break-in" period. The manual says to keep the RPM's low and unless you are doing that in 1st gear it should be keeping itself pretty cool... |

MY XB9S got pretty hot ( not hot enough to burn my leg ) in that area when i first had it and I was concerned about the effect on future generations, however it seems to run a lot cooler now after 2400 miles. |

I've got over 18,000 miles now, and the only time I notice anything like that is on a hot day stuck in traffic. Uncomfortable yes, never felt like it was going to burn my leg though. But, then again, I've got a Nine. |

Jad, My 12R has 52 miles on it..I've been keeping the RPMs under 3000, and it definitely got "burn yourself if you touch it" hot yesterday when I put about 20 miles on it (it was cool outside). I just assumed it was because it was still breaking in. Tom |

yeah no worries, I've got a 12R and I remember when I first got it all I could think about was getting the headers ceramic coated to bring the temp down so I didnt cook myself, now the only times the heat even catches my attention is in stop and go traffic in full gear on a hot day. I'm sure it'll tone down. My bike now has about 5k on it. |

It was during stop and go after about 10 Min at 3k RPM. The temperature in Orlando is in the low to mid 90’s now. I guess I'll try to stay out of traffic until the Synthetic is in it. Thank you all..........

One trick I use on hot days is to stop a little more frequently to fill up the "tank". The frame cools down with the fresh gas going in. Synthetic oil WILL help, too. The 12's do seem to run hotter, especially when new. |

My xb9 got really hot in the beginning. Fan would start while cruising on the highway at 120kmh. Now that I have passed the 6000 kays, the fan never comes on, except when I shut it down. It then runs for 10 seconds and stops. I'm going to synth this coming weekend. Personally I believe it's not the best thing to do to switch to synth too early. Also, I consider it a good thing to do a quick oil change now. I wouldn't want that debris to sit in my engine for a 1000mls. my 2 cents, Ingemar. |

Dont forget to check you got enough oil left in the sump while its breaking in. |
